Just wondering if your bariatric surgeon advised iron pills and when post op.  Were you not allowed them for a month for healing?  How soon after surgery did you take them.  Thank, Brian...for a friend  PS She does have a cycle.

I was advised to take iron after surgery.  I started all of my vitamins 3 days post op. My iron is the only supplement I take that is not chewable or in powder form, so my Dr and nutritionist told me to cru**** and put it in a little sugar free applesauce to get it down.

I started on Iron and other vitamin supplements in addition to the basics at 8 weeks.  I have to be very diligent with it and take it at least 2 hours away from calcium as my iron was low at that point.

I took iron for six months after surgery.  I didn't need it again for 10 years.

I'm 3 weeks post op and iron hurts my stomach at the moment.

I have had low iron in the past but the doc said I can hold off awhile and try again in a week or two OR try taking with different types of food to see what works.

Also, in my experience the ferrous fumarate form of iron may be easier to handle than others.

Carbonyl iron is often tolerated better than fumarate, I'd suggest giving that a shot.

I've never tried that one but it looks like a good option. Anything but ferrous sulfate, that stuff is brutal!

patchmd.com has iron patches now.  I've started using them a couple of months ago.  Not sure if my bloodwork will show it yet from last week when I get the results, but I can report that I'm chewing far less ice than I once was.

Yeah Grim...I have learned being on this site for over 10 years, if you are a guy, you say very little about that issue.  Women don't want to hear it from a man.  So unless I'm an OBGYN, I will let other women take the lead on that one...
