Under the desk/sitting elliptical

Has anyone out there used one of the many under the desk/sitting down ellipticals?  Stamina Inmotion Elliptical looks promising, has good reviews, and is pretty inexpensive.

My surgery is on 9/26 and the the research I have done has me a little paranoid about blood clots. I was thinking this would be a good option the first week while at home then at work (sit at a desk a lot) to keep the legs moving.  Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jeremy

Your doctor might give you a prescription for blood clotting - I had to do daily Lovenox injections for the first few weeks.

So while I think that the desk elliptical thing would be useful for other reasons, I think that you'll be walking enough post-op that you won't need it.  Because you'll be walking as much as you can.

I will be on Lovenox.  Mostly thinking about when I go back to work since I am only taking one week off.  I've been known to get into a groove so to speak and let 3-4 hours go by without getting up.

I'll set my Jawbone to vibrate every hour or so to remind me to move but figured the elliptical will be right there to help keep the blood flowing.

Thanks for the input,

Jeremy

We have one of these and really like it.  The key, especially when first using, it is to temper the amount of time you use it because it's easy to go overboard (since you're sitting) and when you get up you can fall over like Bridget Jones did in the first movie when getting off the stationary bicycle. Not saying that almost happened to my hubby...*grin*

If you get up and walk for 10 minutes every 90-120 minutes post-op you should be fine without any exercise equipment plus the Heparin shots will help (or whatever blood thinner you are given).  Same at work, get up every hour or so (pretend it's a bathroom/coffee break) and walk for 10 mins.  Set a timer if you need the reminder.  Make it a non-negotiable part of the day.

ETA: Walking at home that first week helps get rid of the C02 in your body after surgery as it can cause shoulder pain and discomfort.  Also, when lying in bed move your feet up and down (like pressing and depressing a car accelerator) and that increases blood flow while resting.

Thanks for the heads up.  I've been guilty of starting my work at 730am and see people leaving for lunch and realize I have been sitting for 4.5 hours straight.  I figured if I had the mini elliptical under the desk at least I could keep my legs moving.

I was just telling my wife this AM that I need to set the alarm on my Jawbone to go off every hour or so.  That will remind me to get up and move once I am back at work.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I fill up a gallon of water first thing when I get to work every morning so my water is covered. Thanks though.

I actually have one under my desk and use it almost every day.  Plus, the company gave me a sit/stand desk.  AND I've started using a balance board while I'm standing.  I just want to keep my body moving as much as possible.  I've even been caught dancing at my desk when I'm standing.  LOL

Awesome!  That is the exact feedback I was looking for.   Congrats on the weight loss.  Looks like you are doing great.
