Musher phase how much should I be eating per meal?

Hi all!! I'm 2 weeks out and can start puree/ mushy food. My concern is how much should I be trying to eat per meal? I was able to eat about a 1/4cup of egg salad today for lunch. I start to get this full pressure felling on my belly. I'm assuing that means I'm full so I stop. Just want to make sure I'm getting in enough protein as my weight loss has stopped already. I know it's early and I'm still healing. Any suggestions?

I just started Phase 2 soft/mushy food today as well.  Our guidelines are start with 1/4 cup per meal, and you should be able to work you way up to 1/2 cup by the time you are ready for the next phase.  I measured out 1/2 cup cottage cheese for dinner, but only managed half and I was definitely full.  Also, make sure you continue your protein drinks because you are not going to get all your protein from the soft foods.

I would check with your doctor.  My doctor requires eating 3-6 tiny meals a day, no larger than 1/2 cup and no fluids 30" prior and 45" after.  He also states, "Make sure to stop when you feel the first hint of fullness."

Ideally the surgeon's suggestions are tailored to their sleeve sizes (our sleeves are all different sizes).  Sadly, the world isn't always ideal.  It's always better to underestimate.

Harvey was persnickety for some time, so I did 1/8-1/6 of a cup for a while and just ate more frequently.  Now I can have a very small meal (6-8oz by volume).

Some of the pressure may just be swelling post-op and. not necessarily fullness.  It will be hard to tell for a few months (or sometimes longer).

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

My guidelines were 1.5 oz (max) per meal, 3 meals per day, during the puree phase.

Protein goals were to be met with supplemental protein shakes.

Its takes a while to figure out how to tell when you are full after surgery.  I did not get any signals from my tummy, but I did get a runny nose when I was full.   I still do if I overeat.

1/4 cup of egg salad sounds just about right for where you are.

best wishes,

Carol

When I was at your stage I could only eat 2 1/2 Tbs. per meal. That went on until about 2 weeks ago. I am just now 3 months out and still cannot eat 1/2 cup of anything. I measure by the Tbs. not the cup, which keeps you from getting too full and keeps it from coming back up on you when you move to the next stage. Of course, some of us can eat more than others, depending on how the Dr. did the sleeve. Good luck!

Stick to 1/4 c, for at least several more weeks. Don't go by what you feel.your feelings will lie to you. Measure, and stick to it.

I started with 2 ounces, which is 1/4 cup by volume.  That was fine.  I never ate more than that, but sometimes I ate less.
