Does anyone know if blood donations are ok years after VSG surgery?  I understand that post RnY - not so much, I assume because of the malabsorption factor.  But is it the same for us? Also is blood donation harder to recover from as you age with VSG?

I asked my Dr this question at my one month follow up and she said that she would only advise patients on blood donation on an individual basis. Now I had RNY and had heard the same as you that we shouldn't donate blood but she said it was very much dependent on the individual and their specific blood work. For example if someone has low iron then definitely not but in my case for example if my 6 month blood work is similar to my one month then she would say go ahead. I'm interested to see what others had been told or have done themselves because it is something that I would like to continue doing.

It really depends on your iron levels
