I feel lost, I don't know the next steps to take. I had v s g on 07/26/16 and I have got down to 265. My highest recorded weight was 358, day of surgery 313. I am not progressing in my weight loss due to binge eating. I have no energy to exercise and I graze all day long. I see a therapist and I am in an intensive outpatient therapy program. My psych doc only wants to give me lamictal, I feel I have a binge eating problem and my primary doc is no help. Is there anything else I can do? I don't want to go back to 358. Thank you for your time.

Hi

I think i developed it after my first year but i noticed it more over the summer. My primary dr was no help, he just said dont eat it and buy it. I was thinking to go back to my surgery center to see if they could help. Can you go back to your center?

I am not a doctor, but I am speaking from experience. Lamictal is generally used as a mood stabalizer and to help with depression when other drugs could cause a manic episode or there are side effects (like weight gain or again, mania) from an SSRI. Hopefully you trust your doctor and if not, please find one who you do trust. I took Lamictal for several years and it actually was a great help for me for a while. I feel for you as struggling to find the right meds is a daunting task, and it's really important that you have a psych that you trust. Best of luck, I hope you find the help you are seeking!

I'm so sorry you are having a rough time but glad you are reaching out for help.  Keep trying to find a therapist that you really click with and don't just stay with one because you don't want to start over.  It's worth the time and effort to find one *****ally gets you and that you trust.

Also, I would suggest to arm yourself with information.  Do as much research on binge eating, mindless eating and the dieting trap as you can.  Knowledge is power in dealing with the myriad of issues that people like us have with food.  There is a reason that we allowed ourselves to become morbidly obese (SUPER morbidly obese, in my case) and dealing with that and recognizing that will help so much in your journey to a healthy weight and life.

I struggle with it every day but dealing with my issues head on has helped tremendously in ending the binge and yo-yo dieting cycle.  I gained back over 40 pounds 3 years out from surgery and that scared me enough to start digging into why this was happening.  Good luck; you can do this!!
