Today it's been 5 months since my surgery, and I'm so mad at myself right now. I went to get my normal Low Carb Thickburger at Hardee's for lunch and dinner. I had a 2 for $5 coupon for the regular burgers so I just ordered them without buns. Got home, BUNS!! Grrrrr

But, did I just take the buns off and throw them away? Nooooooooo...I thought, "Hey, I haven't had bread in 6 months, this one time won't hurt!" (I've had a few low carb tortillas, but rarely and cut them out a month ago as well...but no white bread.) Well, I got about halfway through the burger, when I decided I like them better without the bun, and what the heck was I doing! So, I took half of the remaining bun off and finished it that way, ending up consuming 3/4 of a bun, and way more carbs that I wanted to. So with the added calories and carbs, the other burger is in the fridge for tomorrow (sans bun, it's in the trash), and I'm having string cheese for dinner...

Now my tummy hurts...and I think it's partly guilt and partly the bread. I just want to kick myself, I've done so well up until today! I gave in to the old "it won't hurt this one time" mentality, and I do not want to start that up again. So no more bread...and I will remember to double check my orders from now on before I drive away. Huge lesson learned!!

Tomorrow is a new day. Be gentle with yourself. You have learned a powerful lesson.

It may seem minor, but like an alcoholic, every time you go back to your addiction, it will be harder the next time. We don't fail our surgery in one big binge, we fail by the small mistakes.

Next time you tell yourself that one time won't hurt, remind yourself that many people never make it to goal, many people do get to goal and then gain their weight back. They all do it one indulgence at a time.

This is not an easy journey and it never gets easier.

I am glad you threw the other bun away and glad you knew that what you did was sabotaging yourself.

I actually threw away the entire other hamburger. I just didn't want to look at it after last night. Gonna have some nice chicken and tuna today. I ended up losing 1/2 lb anyway, but I'm still PO'd at myself. The really sad part is, after all that I REALLY prefer the taste without the bun...the fact that I continued eating it as long as I did was just old monsters trying to get back in. Well, they're not going to...I'm not going to let that happen. Onward and upward (I mean, downward lol)!

Here is what I do and I'm 2 yrs 3 months out. I get a hamburger take one bite then remove bread and eat meat and veggies. I learned in WW the first bite is the most rewarding and the remaining will not be as satisfying as the first bite.

Don't beat yourself up and just learn a you go.

The sad truth is after the first bite I realized eating the bun had been a mistake. I actually prefer the taste of the burger sans bun. Ate it anyway. Old habits really do die hard. At least I stopped and threw away the other one. Never again with the white bread...even if I could eat it without my tummy getting upset, my head doesn't want it at all because it's horrible for me nutritionally. Small mistake, but moving on!

At 2.5 years post op, my stomach would kill me if I ate a whole burger (even without a bun). Hamburger meat is very tough for me. Good move throwing away the extra bun. You can do this.
