I had a consultation with a nutritionist today and I left the consultation more knowledgeble than when I went in. I don't have bad eating habits, however, I need to start cooking at home more often to get myself adjusted to not being able to go out and eat for a while. That's probably the one thing that will make me nuts as I usually eat out at least 4 times a week, but hey, that's something small and will be well worth the sacrifice. The nutritionist told me she would recommend me getting use to taking the protein drinks as alot of people have a hard time with this after surgery as they can't seem to find one they can stomach because of the taste. I'm going to start doing this as I would hate to have to drink something that's making me sick mentally. I hope after all my paperwork is sent to Aetna they will give me the go-ahead, but we'll see. I had my psych evaluation done today with Dr. David McCown, PhD in Sterling, VA. My evaluation went well and I didn't realize how relaxing it could be talking with a psychologist. He asked me alot of questions about things that have happened in my life, how I'm feeling at the moment and finally he asked me alot of questions regarding the surgery and was I prepared for life after the surgery. I told him after having researched this for the past year I am ready to undergo such a major change that will happen to my lifestyle upon my having this surgery. I was a little nervous going to this appointment but after talking about everything under the sun with him I was quite relaxed. Dr. McCown also gave me a true/false questionnaire of 567 questions I have to answer and send back to his office. The questions deal with everything from your childhood to sexual orientation. In answering these questions I am learning things about myself on how I feel about certain subjects. After completing this questionnaire I will forward back to him and he said he will have my letter of recommendation to Dr. Anez within a week.

I also stopped by my OB/GYN office to pick up the documentation that I tried a supervised diet program for a period of 6 months. When I looked at it I was kind of depressed as I had gotten down to 208 pounds after having weighed 278 when I started that program. I didn't beat myself up too much as I was told by numerous people that taking the B-12 shots along with Phentermine was a sure-fire way of regaining the weight, but of course every case is different so I had to try it for myself and I am now an advocate of not resulting to that type of diet plan to loose weight. I will send that information to Dr. Anez on Monday via fax and they will in turn forward to my insurance company. Well, that's all I have to report at this moment, so...until next time...

I went to my initial consultation with Dr. Anez today and I left his office feeling more comfortable about my decision to have the surgery after he explained it to me. Although I found him a man of few words he was very knowledgeable about the surgery and answered some questions I had regarding the surgery. While at his office I also found out that my insurance (Aetna) requires me to see a nutritionist, have a psyc evaluation completed and have documentation of having tried a supervised diet program. I now have to make appointments with a nutritionist in which Dr. Anez's office has one on-site. I will be picking up my diet attempt from my OB/GYN as he supervised me taking the Diet Shots and Phentermine (lost 70 pounds and gained it back). I will try to get an appointment to have my psyc evaluation done within the next 2 weeks. I'll keep you posted and until next time...

PMP gave referral to see Dr. Osvaldo Anez, MD (Fairfax, VA). Picked up referral and made my 1st consultation appointment which is scheduled for Monday, August 23, 2004 at 10:00am. Will keep you posted on my progress as things happen.
