I am a 49 year old wife, mother and grandmother. I wasn't always what I would consider obese, maybe thick, but once I left the Air Force and started having children, the weight took off for the sky and never looked back.
Even thought I don't have hypertension or diabetes, my children were extremely concerned that I was carrying so much weight and really scared me into doing something. I've tried South Beach, Atkins, Weight Watchers, the Grapefruit Diet... you name it. And I actually lost weight, but it always came back - and brought friends! After researching this procedure for about two years, I decided that now was the time.
In trying to find my defining moment when I got really serious about this surgery... I think it was seeing photos of myself at my last class reunion. I had to shop in a hurry for a dress and it was cute, but a bit snug size 20. I was called up to the front for recognition due to some work I had done on the reunion committee and so naturally, there were photos. At this point, I had just lost 32lb on Weight Watchers mind you, but I was completely mortified at what I looked like.
It took a change in insurance companies and even deeper research before I found a surgeon and attended the seminar. I'm truly looking forward to this and with the excellent support of my husband, children, extended family and, of course, God's amazing grace, I know this will be a success.
