Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the science of using the fragrance of essential plant oils in healing treatments. Plants have been used for their healing properties for thousands of years. In 4500 b.c. for example, Egyptians used perfumed oils derived from natural sources. They knew that the aromatic quality of plants and herbs could improve digestion, and they used spices in their cooking. Garlic also provided antibacterial properties and helped to prevent epidemics. According to a translation of the inscription on the Pyramid of Cheops, every morning each slave, who worked to build the pyramid, was given a clove of garlic because its aromatic properties would provide him with strength and good health. Now aromatherapy is used with great success all over the world.

Aromatherapy is an energetic healing technique that uses the vibratory energy of various aromas to shift the body’s energy system and bring relief from physical symptoms. The aromas used are distilled directly from plants and placed in an oil base, forming what is called essential oils.

This is an excerpt from my book, now an e-book, called "The Healthy Family Handbook: Natural Remedies for Parents and Children," which looks at 9 different healing modalities and how to use them for everyday ailments.

Depression

Apr 28, 2007

Depression hits every single one of us from time to time. I decided, im sick and tired of taking so much medication. Granted my vitamins and supplements are necessary for good health. I plan to take those as ordered. I am however, sick of the way this Wellbutrin makes me feel. It makes my mind RACE a zillion times a second, I feel lightheaded shortempered and  I noticed I am impulsive with money and spending. I was never like that before this Wellbutrin. In the past Paxil has worked well for me but with the new meds, on the market, I suppose my pcp decided to give those a try first. I started off with more of an aniexty/panic disorder, than depression. However not being treated for the anxiety and pani attacks did make me depressed. Neither are good to have when you work in a mental hospital! trust me! Anywho, I am supposed to be taking Wellbutrin XR 300mg. I have titrated my doseage down and completely stopped it myself. I will inform my pcp on my next visit.

So, how have I done in the past three months since? WONDERFUL! Being in healthcare, I have always tried to take a holistic approach in
regards to healing. Mind, body and spirit. I take natural herbs and alternative therapies whenever I can. Ive discovered HYLANDS, all natural homeopathic remedies have taken the edge off my anxiety and panic disorder. Ive been taking Hylands Calm Forte, two tabs, twice a day to start, now only when I start to feel anxious. I also take Hylands nerve tonic, when I feel the need. Both, took a good day to get in system but since Ive been on them regularly for the past three months, I can take a once a day dose and do very well. Ive found both at Walgreens and CVS. MUCH cheaper than Wellbutrin and MUCH more effective for me!

I AM NOT ADVOCATING ANYONE DO AS I HAVE DONE, without discussing it with your pcp or surgeon. Im just sharing, what has worked for me.

The next step, I began to feed my spirit and surrounded myself with upbeat positive people! I firmly believe in the law of attraction and you can and will attract what you put out wheter it is negative or positive. The more positive things I brought into my world, the more good positive things have happened for me. It has defintely helped to erase depression from my world! You ARE in charge of your destiny!!

Aromatherapy. Dont knock it if you havent tried it. It works wonders. lavender calms and soothes. I love it so much, Im growing my own to make wreaths and dried cuttings for my home. A few drops of lavender oil, sometimes sage oil, with a handful or two of epsoms salt in the bathwater and Ive almost cured my chronic insomnia. Not quite, but Im getting there.

Set aside time for YOU, each and everyday! THIS has been the most beneficial for me. I tend to use the time before bed, to relax and reflect on the GOOD things, in my life or the GOOD things that have happened for me. Candles, lavender and soothing CD of rain and ocean waves do the trick each and everytime.

Ive learned to take life's daily problems and tackle them head on. I no longer put anything off, I take care of it as soon as it comes my way, and I once taken care of, I leave it be. I used to dwell on things and let them upset me. No more! I can honestly say, the last few months, since Ive been off medication for depression have been the BEST! Im much happier than Ive been in YEARS! My family is much happier. LIFE IS GOOD!

Another thing I began as a suggestion from a good friend, was Fung Shui! It seems to be working, I highly suggest the book, "Move your stuff, Change your life" by Karen Raunch Carter. It seems to be making a differ.

Laugh loud and often! Rent comedies and enjoy! It really is the BEST medicine!

Please take time to count your blessings and try to find something good to focus on everyday. It doesnt happen overnight but you will learn to take the time to smell the roses, and appreciate the good aspects that do surround you. Sometimes we can' t see it,

FINALLY!!! Delicious Protein!!

Apr 19, 2007

I am two years post op and have struggled for two years to find just ONE delicious protein powder with no protein smell or after taste. I finally have tried many that I absolutely LOVE! I Love them so well, I have maybe 5 protein shakes a day. It defintely has stopped my hair loss. If you struggle with protein, please try one or all of these. I promise you, you will love them too.

IDS Vanilla Cinnamon: I use this in my daily coffee for a 26 gram boost, first thing in the morning. DELICIOUS, just mix one scoop in a coffe mug with a little cold water. Enough to make a paste. I use a fork, it blends much better than a spoon. Fill the mug with your favorite coffee, stir well and enjoy. I promise you, its much better than Starbucks ANY DAY! I sometimes add a splash of SF Davinci Cinnamon syrup for an intense cinnamon experience.  Ive also added a spoonful of Big Train Chai mix for a fabulous vanilla cinnamon chai latte. YUMMM OH!! 26 gm protein, 1.5 sugars, 2 carbs

PVL New Whey Gourmet "Ice Cream Parlor" flavors. My favorite is chocolate peanut butter!! FINALLY a Reece's you can drink that is good for you! This stuff is fantastic as a warm mug of chocolaty peanut butter goodness or even better with a cup of vanilla soy milk! I now use vanilla soy milk exclusively! 9gm protein, low carbs and low fat. This powder mix has  3carbs, 1 sugar and 22 grams of protein goodness. Add one cup of vanilla soy milk for a 31 gram glass of delicous protein! For a boost when I really want to grab a Reeces, I add a splash of SF Davinci chocolate syrup and a splash of SF Davinci Peanut Butter syrup. It really satisfies my cravings for the real thing.

Matrix Cookies and Cream: Contains real cookie bits for an exciting surprise! it mixes very well with milk for added protein or icy cold water for a delicious glass of cookies and cream. No imatation taste here. No smell with any of these suggested!! Delicious warm or cold and so good there is no need to add any SF Davinci syrup.  23 gm protein, 2 sugars, 3 carbs.

Matrix Chocolate: The BEST chocolate protein powder around! It makes a fabulous hot chocolate. Just make a paste with a little cold water and a spoon or fork first, fill mug with hot water (I use water from my coffee maker) and for added pleasure I add a splash of SF Davinci toasted marshmellow syrup. It is the bomb! 23 gm protein, 2 sugars, 3 carbs. This also very good with a spoonful of SF International Foods Susse Mocha Coffee. Try it and see! Add a splash of SF Davinci cholate and a splash of SF Davinci cherry for a delicious chocolate cherry warm drink, add a splash of chocolate Davinci and a splash of  SF coconut Davinci for a warm Almond Joy! YES, it REALLY is THAT GOOD!

Achiev One: What can I say. A coffee lover's HEAVEN! I have tried the vanilla nut and the cappicino. I buy at least 4 cases a month and have at least 2 a day, it is simply just that GOOD! Its expensive but so what. Im worth every penny and I do not spend money on materialistic things so why not spoil myself for the sake of good health! Im enjoying a vanilla nut with a splash of SF Davinci Caramel right now!

SF Davinci Syrups: A WLS patients candy! This product is so good and can used in everything from lattes, coffee, drinks to SF puddings and more. The possibilities are endless and they are sweetened with Splenda. There are at least 50 different flavors available and i have a source for $6.95 a bottle and YES these are the BIG bottles! PM me if you want to know where you can get them, for a decent price, with low shipping and fast service!

Getting in at least 100 grams of protein a day is no longer a struggle, it is a joy and a pleasure!
