6 months post-op, weighing in @ 190

Dec 12, 2010

Before

After

What a difference 6 months can make! I love the NEW, healthier me. Having WLS has done wonders for me. I am using my tool to the fullest. I could have NEVER done this by myself. Thank you all for being so supportive and helpful. It's been 6 months and I am down to 190 pounds. My BMI is down from 51 to 34. I am feeling wonderful. I am comfortably wearing a size 14 (haven't worn this size in over 20 yrs). I have decided to start saving so that one day I can have a tummy tuck, breast lift, and some other nip and tuck procedures (like my inner thighs). I'm hoping that by the time my 1 yr surgery anniversary comes that I will be in a size 10 or weighing about 150.  Does anyone know if insurance will pay for cosmetic surgeries?  Guess I will have to do some research. As always feel free to leave some feedback.

ONEDERLAND . . . I made it!

Oct 25, 2010

Finally . . . the scale says 199.8!!

My goal was to be under 200 pounds by the time of my 39th birthday. Well my birthday is Saturday, and I accomplished my first real weight loss goal. I was stressing cuz I was at a stall in my weight loss, but the scale is moving again and I am so thrilled. I swear, this surgery was the best thing that i have ever done for myself. I feel like I have my life back. Thanks for all the support you all have given me through this journey. I love all of my sisters is surgery!

almost 3 months out

Sep 14, 2010

Well, I'm 1 day shy of being 3 months out. WOW, this is the best thing that I have ever done for myself (besides my hysterectomy . . . lol)! I still look in the mirror and see the fat me, to me it doesn't look like my appearence has changed much, but when I put on clothes, i can definately see the difference. I was a size 24/26 before surgery and now I fit in a size 16. At my highest weight i was 274 pounds (keep in mind that I'm only 5'2"), the day i left the hospital I weighed in at 261 pounds, today I weighed in at 212 pounds. Not bad at all for 3 months if i may say so myself. My BMI is now below 40. My blood sugars which were ranging in the high 300's with medication are now between 70-90. I no longer require any medications for high blood sugar!!  HALLELUJAH!!

About 3 weeks ago I started working! (Yes, even in this slum of an economy I found a job.) It's only part-time, but I figure part-time is better than NO time. Anyhow, getting out of the house and moving around is doing wonders for me. (I haven't worked in over 2 yrs)   You wouldn't believe the energy that I have now.  It's such a great feeling.

How bout dem Saints? Way to start out the season, kicking Brett Favre and his Viking team's ass, just like we did before we beat the Colts to win the SUPERBOWL. Anyhow, can I get a WHO DAT???  I love my Saints!!!

Lately, I have been thinking alot about Caylee (my niece who died the day I had surgery @ 17 days old) and my Aunt Judy (who died 5 days after my surgery) . . . I really miss both of them alot. And PLZ pray for my dad as he is in the hospital again with pancreatitis and a mass of some sort on his pancreas. The Dr said he can't rule out cancer until after they get the biopsy results.

On the upside, my family and friends have been so supportive. Actually a couple of guys from high  school have started paying quite alot of attention to me. lol A dear friend tells me that I shouldn't give them the time of day cuz that didnt want anything to do with me when I was heavy. But anyhow, who knows!!! Next month I will turn 39 yrs old and my sister is taking me with her to her 20th high school reunion (mine was last year) and my goal is to be under 200 pounds and lookin good!!

PLZ feel free to leave your feedback (as long as you aint bashing my football team). GEAUX SAINTS!!

I bought the jeans in the regular women's department instead of the plus size department!! How do they look? I'm loosing my butt!

2 months Post-op

Aug 10, 2010

We'll when I went to the Dr's office last time, they fussed me! Said I wasn't getting in enough liquids and that is the reason for me having some bathroom issues. So the very next day I took a different approach and called the dietician at my primary's office. She told me to come in right away and sat down with me for over 2 hours. She use to be a bariatric co-ordinator for another team of docs. Anyhow, we went back to basics. She got my height and current weight to come up with the number for the amount of liquids that i should be taking in. anyhow, since then, all id going fine. I havent weighedin almost 2 weeks, but the last tie i weighed, i had lost 44 pounds. from what i gather, i'm right where i should be.

Personal life is going bizerk right now. My oldest daughter is off of her rocker and driving me insane. i cant have her controling my damn house, she acts like i owe her everything. she will be 19 in november and thinks she is grown and doesnt have to follow my rules. well guess again. i put a roof over her ead, pay her cell bill, food in her tummy, she has cable tv and internet, and a/c. what more could she ask for. she thinks i owe her a car. this is the same child that dropped out of high school last year in her sr year (against my advice). anyhow she had to go, i cant handle the stress.

anyhow, i just got back from a job interview and I GOT THE JOB. ofcourse its not my dream job, but times are tuff and momma needs to pay the bills. so wish me luck, i start next week.

Oh and it's almost time for some football!
Geaux Saints lets two dat!!!

What 2 wear?

Jul 18, 2010

Nothing, and I mean nothing that I have in my closet fits me anymore! 1 month post-op and I have lost 38 lbs.

I spent most of the weekend trying on clothes. Time to part with just about every piece of clothing that I own! Before surgery my mother had given me 2 bags of clothes and she told me you need to go through those clothes and see what fits. Most of them were size L and XL and I thought none of that is gonna fit me yet. Well, most of it did! I found a great pair of black slacks size 18, which is great compared to the size 24/26 pants that I had been wearing pre-op.

I have a family party to attend on the 24th and can't wait to show everyone the changes that I have made. Because I'm dropping the weight and I dont really have a budget that will allow me to go shopping everyweek for new clothes, today I am gonna go to the Thrift Store (it owned by a family member) and see what I can find. Hoping that I can find something sexy yet classy.

almost 3 weeks after surgery, and I'm lovin my sleeve

Jul 06, 2010

So, it's been almost 3 weeks since I got sleeved and I have dropped a total of 28 pounds! I still can't tell when I look in the mirror, but I can definately tell in my clothes.  For the 4th of July we went to see a local band, Harvey Jesus and Fire, and watch some fireworks, well I put on a pain of jean capris that we way to tight on my a month ago, well I had to wear a belt with them just to hold them up. My mom tells me that she can see my face taking shape now, that it's not so round anymore.

Got SLEEVED on 6-16

Jun 22, 2010

Was sleeved on 6-16-2010 . . . bittersweet day! My precious niece, Caylee Renee` only 17 days old went to be cradled in the arms of our Heavenly Father.  I did not know until the next day.

So, I got sleeved! OMG, when I woke up, I was in so much pain. Worse than the 2 c-sections and hysterectomy I had combined! My mom stayed with me the first night. I was having some blood pressure issues (dropping down to 80/40). My blood sugar was still in the 200's despite insulin and NO FOOD! So, the transport person at the hospital brings me down to get my swallow test to see if I have any leaks . . . and my freakin hospital bed, with me in it, gets stuck in the elevator! Finally got out after the guy was standing on my bed and I'm in and out from the Morphine. So I got the test done! NASTY!!!!! After making it back to my room, I went to check on my OH friend who was in the room next to me. (we were suppose to be sleeved the same day, but doc made her wait an extra day) She was out like a light, so I went back to my room and played JEOPARDY with my morphine pump. "Alex, I'll take PAIN FREE for $1000!" That's some good stuff!  My oldest daughter ended up staying with me on the 2nd night, and thank God, because she would walk me to the potty and everything. On Friday afternoon I left the hospital to come home, straight to bed! Could not get comfy for nothing. Walking around a little on Saturday and Sunday, the gas pains are the worse!! By the way, on Sunday morning my Great-Aunt Judy passed! On Monday, went to Caylee's funeral. One of the hardest days of my life. She looked like a lil angel , so peaceful, just beautiful. So today is Tuesday, and I am feeling the best I have so far. Up and walking around alot! Did I mention that I don't even get hungry! Tried some Muscle Milk and spent the rest of the day in the bathroom. But, I have lost 16 lbs! And while at the beginning, I was kinda regretting having this surgery, now . . . I'M READY TO ROCK MY SLEEVE !!!!

Got my new date!!

May 13, 2010

So the big day is the 26th of May!!

I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row to prepare for the pre-op and post-op diet. are there any suggestions? i would greatly appreciate any.

but anyways, i'm ready. bring it on, baby! momma is ready to find herself again. ya know i prayed to god that if this was meant to be, that he would provide a surgeon to do my procedure. and he did! and believe me i did a back ground check on this one. not like the other one who lost his license because he's a pill popper and a boozer. thank god that man didnt operate on me. who knows the damage that he could have done to me. so some of my girls from this site are scheduled for surgery too.  i'm so happy for all of us. we are gonna do this together and be there for each other. good luck y'all!

Approved . . . again!! Swimming off the pounds!

May 05, 2010

So, I was a lil upst last week when i recieved a letter saying that I was denied due to lack of documentation. But one quick call to my NEW surgeons nurse and all was taken care of. Today I recieved my Approval letter! So now I just have to wait to be scheduled for surgery.

In the mean time, I have been exercising by swimming alot. and in 3 weeks I have lost 9 pounds. It feels great having my pool. (Just got it cleaned out and re-plastered since Katrina) (if you could have seen what was living in that) My daughter, who is 10 yrs old and overweight for her age and height, has also lost 6 pounds and is in a smaller pants size now. I hope that the both of us can keep this up.

New Hope

Mar 30, 2010

So today I went to my appointment with the new surgeon. I did not see him, but I did see his PA, and she was wonderful and so easy to talk to. They accepted everything that I had already done, now I just need to get a sleep study done and await for the new approval letter, which shouldn't take to long considering with the old doctor I was approved on the first try. So, it's looking like it could be as soon as May or June. I'm so happy . . . I feel like I have some hope again.

Wishing all of you a safe and Happy Easter. And just as with Christmas, lets not forget the real reason that we celebrate Easter. Jesus died for all of us!
