The Day My Skirt Fell Off

Sep 29, 2009

This morning I put on my skirt and started looking for a shirt.  I stepped to the left and when I settled into my new spot, I felt a breeze.  What the heeeeey?  My skirt fell off!  HA!  I got out the next size smaller skirt and discovered it, too, was too big!  Woooohooo!  I slipped out the size 16 with some trepediation...would it fit?  Holy schnickeys!  It fits!  It looks great!

12 weeks and 50 pounds

Sep 22, 2009

Honestly, I'm astounded.  And very, very happy.  I have lots of energy and have dropped 6 (almost 8) sizes.  I'm greatful for the chance to do something so life-changing.  I'm still struggling to get adequate water and food but most days I do ok.  I take prenatal vitamins because they are food-based and easier on the stomach.  Exercise is consistent evening walk/runs while pushing my toddler in the jogging stroller.  We go for about 2 miles.  I feel great when we are done.  My hair is falling out some but I'm hoping that doesn't last.  I did have a kidney infection recently and I've never had one of those before.  Who knows if it's related to the weight loss surgery or not.  I'm looking forward to next summer which will be the first time I wear a swimsuit in public, without being ashamed, in many moons. Take care everyone and best of luck to you all.

2 weeks post-surgery

Jul 16, 2009

And I'm feeling better.  Getting used to the fact that I now eat a very small amount compared to waht I used to eat.  Funny that even though my stomach is drastically smaller, and I know this, my mental expectations about how much I should eat are just getting adjusted.  This is a real case of "your eyes are bigger than your stomach!"

Thoughts so far...
1. Eat slooooooowly.
2. Eat a maximum of 1/8 of a cup of anything to avoid feeling too full.  Which is REALLY uncomfortable by the way.
3. Don't eat for at least 2 hours before bedtime.  I've had "vurps" that woke me from a deep sleep becuase I ate too late.  Not pleasant!
4. Liquid vitamins rock even though they're a little smelly.
5. Keep moving.  I've cleaned a lot of house and done a lot of gardening in an effort to burn more calories.  And I'm so excited about being fit again, I don't even care that I'm doing hours of chores.  :-) bonus!
6. Seriously, don't drink when you eat.  Keeps the whole vurping thing at bay and allows you to get the nutrition you need.
7. Stick to meal times to retrain the brain that is telling you "hey you haven't eaten in a while and yoiu ate very little last time so you better go eat something!"
8. Stay positive.  Trolls suck.

Take care people!

And I can't wait to get off the liquid part of this diet.  I know eating will be drastically different but I'm worn out on these liquids.  I'm in complainer mode, or venting mode, depending on your perspective.  Just ready for real food again, even if it's only a bite or two!

Today I feel significantly better.  I think I'm almost done with this cold, and I feel noticeably less fragile from the surgery.  Yay.  Don't get me wrong, I can still tell that I get I've had a major organ partially removed but i do feel better.

Other good news...in two more pounds and I will have lost a total of 20 pounds.  That's music to my ears.  My goal weight is 145 pounds so that meant that I needed to loose about 120 pounds. Wow.  That just seems overwhelming so mentally I have broken down the journey into four 30-pound milestones.  Soooo, I'm 10 pounds from my first milestone!  Exciting!  Basically, I need to repeat this level of effort 3 more times and I will be at my goal.  I know it will get harder as I get closer to my goal, but mentally the self-talk is really helping me stay positive and focused.

Hope everyone is doing well today.  Thanks for all of the supportive messages!  I really, really appreciate them!

Got a cold but otherwise feeling good today.  Definately in recuperative mode from the surgery still and trying to find balance on a broth diet.  Basically just struggling to take in the necessary fluids.  But I did loose another half pound today.

4 days post op and getting better

Jul 06, 2009

Someone told me the worst of this experience is the first 48 hours after surgery.  For the first 24 I thought "hey no problem, this is a piece of cake" (pun intended).  Weellllll, then the gas pains started kicking my butt and the acid reflux was the follow up act.  Then I think I couldn't get enough calories in me to stablize my blood sugar and I started shaking like Katherine Hepburn.  But today, I'm doing pretty well.  Hope you all are too.

1 day post surgery

Jul 03, 2009

Wow.  My surgery was yesterday. Had my leak test earlier today and all looks well.  The hard part is already over.  The worst issue now is the bithof gas in my tummy that doesn't seem to want to exit either end.  Other than that, I feel pretty damn good. I would write more about the surgery day itself but I'm ready for a nap.  Hope all my srugery buddies are holding up and doing well!

Surgery in 2 more days

Jun 30, 2009

Time is near.  My biggest worry is getting back home safely to my baby and husband.  I believe things will be fine and I am grateful to have the opportunity for this surgery but I'm still sad to leave my son.  I am ready to get on with it, and get past the hard part.

Parts I'm excited about...getting to spend a few days alone with my sisters and having a few days off work.  Hopefully we will have some good laughs together and a few good memories to bring back home with us.

I keep thinking abou the pledge my sister and I made last year walking along Lake Tahoe.  We said that we should loose weight and be back here next year weighing a lot less.  Almost one year later to the day, we are having surgery together.  Here's to next year in Tahoe for July 4th!

Lost 5 pounds so far!!

Jun 26, 2009

YAY!  Although it's not a lot of weight, mentally it's a giant step.  My body has been so resistant to loosing weight the last 2 years (I gained 2 pounds once sticking to Jenny Craig, no cheating, and nursing a baby!), seeing this loss confirms that I can do this!
