Liquids!

Aug 10, 2009

So I've been on my liquid diet for 2 weeks now. It's so much easier than I expected really. It was much harder being hungry the day before surgery and only being on clear liquids. My stomach growled plenty that day. Now it's just an accepted part of my life. i do dream of a couple things I'll be able to have in the pureed stage. I really want to have some scrambled eggs, and I'm also dreaming of pureeing some meatballs with some spaghetti sauce :) ....mmmmm.... Mashed potatos will be nice too. One more week till I can have those, but until then let me give you an Idea of the kind of stuff I'm drinking. Every single day I've gotten a grape flavored IDS protein bullet and mixed it with water in a 32 ounce container my auntie angel Linda gave me. I sip this throughout the day and I get 42 grams of protein from this alone.

Then the rest of the day I have had things like:
SF Pudding,
milk,
apple juice,
yogurt,
carnation instant breakfast,
water,
SF iced tea,
Muscle milk (didn't like much),
Kellog premade protein shake (pretty tasty),
sf jello,
strained soups,
Crystal light popsicles (YUM).

I also tried making my own ice cream a couple times with not very much success really. I've been getting my liquids down pretty easily because all day long i use this timer called gymboss that I've set to beep every 3 minutes. At each beep I make sure to take a sip or a gulp.. since I can manage gulping that often pretty easily now. Before I know it my liquids are all done for the day :) It has been one of my favorite tools on this journey. Just give me my 32 ounce water bottle, my gymboss, and a protein bullet and I'm good to go! The bullets are pretty good watered down.. like gatorade or something. No protein taste or aftertaste.

In other news...
I'm driving again. No more pain meds at all. I can touch my stomach without any real pain though my incisions occasionally give me slight twinges. It looks like I'm healing pretty well. I've managed to keep a lot of the glue around my incisions on so it's kinda hard to tell really. I'm still not wearing waistbands around there if I can help it because I don't want to irritate them. Lots of pajamas and housedresses. I went to starbucks the other day with my mom and angel grandma Nancy and had a skinny steamed milk with some SF caramel and vanilla syrup added. Yummy! Thanks Nancy!

It's not too bad being on liquids really... a bit boring but... IMHO  It'd be really nice to have regular food sure... but I can't deny, losing 14 lbs already has been awesome. By the end of the month I'm hoping to be where I was before I started this journey, under 200 lbs and below 35 bmi. :P
