One month and Pureed foods!

Aug 27, 2009

Woohoo! It's been one month since surgery and I've lost about 24 lbs at this point. It's really cool, though I was hoping that at  point I might be down enough to be where I was at when I started this journey, before I had to gain weight to qualify for insurance coverage. It's alright though. I have plenty of time in this new life to lose the weight and it really is going great so far. Right now I'm on pureed foods which is lots easier than liquids when it comes to eating with other people. I can even eat stuff that's chunkier as long as it's soft enough to puree in my mouth when I chew it. The only thing I've had that didn't go down very well was a spoonful of my mom's egg salad stuff. it was finely chopped and I chewed it up a lot but it hurt a bit once it settled in my pouch. I've been taking pills fine. I still do chewables for calcium and multivitamin, but I take a biotin capsule as well.

The foods I have eaten lately on my pureed diet in addition to liquids I mentioned earlier include:
Corned beef hash
Chili
Applesauce
Refried beans
Scrambled eggs
Some of the corn cakey stuff they give you at El Torito
Mashed potatos
Pureed meatballs mixed with spaghetti sauce
Soups

The important thing to remember witht he foods is to chew even if you don't think you have to. I think that's one reason I've had such good success getting so many food items down.

My incision sites have been healing great. I have 6 little pink lines. (TMI ALERT) Only one site is a little drainy. It's a very small site. It had a scab but it came off and since then it has been a little wet looking so I've kept a bandaid on it. All the glue is off of the incisions which is good. I think this incision was probably the one they took the gallbladder out through so maybe that has something to do with why it's not so clean.

I'm gonna go eat some eggs now :) byeeee!
