I received a phone call this morning confirming that The Bariatric Registry has received my referral form and I have been placed in queue at Humber River Regional Hospital Bariatric Center. I know it's not an appointment or anything but at least it's confirmation that I'm moving forward :-) so happy I could burst !! I know it's still going to be slow going but now I know my referral was received and I'm not just sitting here waiting to find out I was waiting for nothing. 

I did something stupid yesterday because I was feeling desperate to get answers from The Registry. I called the Registry and there was a message stating they no longer answered calls regarding individual referral statuses but if your from a doctors office and have not yet received a confirmation fax you could leave a message and someone would get back to you. I don't know what I was thinking I left a message acting as a representative from my doctors office, now I regret what I did. What if my desperation gets me kicked off the Registry or worse gets me in trouble :-( What was I thinking, obviously I wasn't :-( 

Hi everyone, I just felt like blogging today. I always visit OH everyday and read peoples stories, etc.. but today I felt like talking today so here it goes. I know this process it slow and that I need to be patient but I find it so frustrating that the registry doesn't have a confirmation system just so you know that your referral has been received (I realize that your doctor is suppose to received a fax confirmation). I'm not asking them to give me wait times or an orientation date, etc.. I would just like to be sure that my referral was received and my journey has started, instead I sit here worried that I've been wasting 8 weeks waiting for an appointment date and I may end up finding out that my referral wasn't received and than I will have to start waiting all over again. My original referral was sent in May 14th/14, I waited 5 weeks and then went to see my doctor to see if she had received any confirmation and she had not, so she said she would re-fax it and she did because I watched her do it. After this I also started looking into how to contact the registry and I found an e-mail and a phone number, so I e-mailed them only to received an automatic e-mail reply which stated that they no longer reply to inquiries about referral status. I decided to call only to receive a message that stated the same thing. I left a message anyway and have never received a return call. I went back to see my doctor on Thursday to see if they had received a fax confirmation yet and they have no so they said they would fax it again with a note stating they have not received any confirmation yet. I even went so far as to call HRRH myself as I looked up which centre I would be referred to based on my postal code. I received that same message as the registry that no inquiries regarding referral status are returned gggggrrrrrrrr !!! I'm frustrated !!!! Deep breath I know I just wish they would send you a confirmation letter or some type of ID # so that you can call and check your referral using an automated system or something like with your bills. You call enter your bill # and you know the status of you account. I guess it's easy for me to sit here and make suggestions but I'm sure it's not that easy to implement something like that. Anyway so thanx for letting me rant away. Good-Luck to everyone else who may be reading this, we'll all get there eventually :-)

After more than a year of research and contemplating I finally made the decision to have my family physician sent in my referral to the Bariatric surgery registry. Now the waiting begins !! I have heard it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months just to get an appointment for the mandatory orientation session and this doesn't even guarantee that I will be accepted for the surgery. I guess I shouldn't have contemplated quite so long sigh. My family physician sent the referral May 14th 2014. My mother always told me patience was a virtue, I guess I better work on that some more lol
