Today I received a call from my surgeon's office. I was quite surprised to hear from them as I thought they were calling to tell me of additional pre-surgery testing I would have to do. Well, because I've been in constant contact with Dr. Cunneen's office, all the staff know me and know how persistent I've been in trying to move things along as quickly as possible. This morning, I was given a surgery date!! CAN YOU BELIVE IT? Just last Wednesday I was told that it would be a while before I got a date because of an extra step that had to be taken to get authorization for my surgery work up testing. My, my, my, God is sooooo good to me. Over the holiday weekend He made it so that I was given a surgery date first thing this morning. I'm scheduled to have a LAP RNY on October 14, 2002. Although this is 3 months away I'm sure it will be here before I know it. And who knows, if an opening becomes available before Oct. 14 they'll let me know to see if I want the new date. I have a lot of prepartions to make in the meantime so until then, thanks for all the encouragement and continue to pray for me. To all of you who are thinking about having or who have had WLS KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!

Dana, congratulations on your approval. I know how excited you are as I was just approved a couple of weeks ago myself!! Now for a date!!! WHOOO HOOOO!!

I've been calling for two weeks now trying to get in touch with the scheduling nurse at my doctor's office. The first week she never returned my phone calls. The second week she was out for the entire week at a conference (just my luck). Now that she's back I find out that I need to contact my PCP to have my "surgery work up" testing. Had I known that two weeks ago once I found out I was approved I would have gotten the ball rolling. Now, two weeks has gone by with no progress. Then, to add salt to the wound, my medical plan requires that all surgical requests be submitted through their Associates office for approval first. Then they'll forward the approval to my PCP and she will notify me. THEN, I can call to schedule the necessary appointments. This adds even more waiting time to getting a surgery date. What a disappointing day this has been. No matter what, knowing that I'm approved makes this all worth it. Nobody said it was going to be easy. To all those awaiting approval or thinking about having WLS, KEEP YOUR HEAD UP.

June 17, 2002 - Today I called my insurance carrier's claims office to check the status of my request for LAP Gastric Bypass Surgery. It's official: I'M APPROVED! I couldn't believe it when I heard those sweet words. Exactly one month to date from my first consultation. It feels so great to be over that "hump". Now comes my determination in getting all my testing done so I can get a surgery date. Thanks to all who lifted me and my request for WLS up in prayer and to those who are still awaiting or thinking about having WLS, KEEP YOUR HEAD UP. Your time is coming sooner than you think!
