I am a 30 year old female who has been coping with being overweight all of my life. I have tried almost every diet there is and I will lose and gain, then lose and gain, etc. I have knee problems and three doctors have told me that I need to lose weight.
I scheduled my appointment to see Dr. Schweitzer in July, 2005 and his first available appointment was in January, 2006. So I waited until January 9th to see him. I saw him, that appointment went well. I left feeling pretty good about my decision to get Lap-Band.
I got all of my letters of medical necessity and 1 year worth of medical records over to Debbie (Dr. Schweitzer's Secretary) on Monday, March 27th. My insurance company denied me. I went through the appeals process, sent them a letter, my 1st appeal was denied also.
It is now 2008, and I've decided to continue to pursue getting the lap-band. I just found out that my insurance company now covers the surgery. I had to do a 6 month medically supervised diet and go to a psch evaluation. So I guess I'm on the right track, finally.
I finished my 6 month diet on October 29th and got my approval on November 14th. I will be banded on February 10th. That seems so far away, but I know that time will go by quickly.
Wish me luck!!
