Final Pre-op consultation

Jun 23, 2007

I went to see Dr Barker for my final pre-op consultation and feel very good about everything.  He plans to do it laproscopically (with 6 tiny incisions), expects that I will not have to have a drain or NG tube, and only a one night stay.  He has very good statistics regarding complications and I feel very confident in his skill level.  We discussed pain management, anesthesia, post-op care, etc.  He answered all my questions but he did seem a little rushed (his waiting room is always full).  I did find out that I need to have a cardiac stress test prior to surgery.  I also learned a lot more about his aftercare program and attended my first support group meeting that night.

When I went to the support group I didn't know what to expect.  There were about 25 of us in various stages from pre-op to post-op.  The behavioral therapist was very informative and their was a lot of open discussion.  I can't wait to go to the next one.

Finally approved

May 29, 2007

I haven't posted in a very long time because I have been denied twice by my insurance company. (I was denied due to lack of information that they needed before granting approval).  The good news is...I received a letter today saying they approved my appeal.  I have been off the message board for 2 months because I didn't want to get my hopes up.  I can't believe it is really going to happen.  I am excited but also terrified because I am such a carb addict.  I eat candy and ice cream all day long.  I want to be thin so badly that I guess I am willing to go to extremes to get it.

My life has been so adversely effected by my weight that I seriously need to make a change:
I can no longer put on my socks or do proper foot care
I walk with a limp and can't walk very far
I have difficulty climbing stairs
Can't  shave my legs except with an electric razor
I am having a hard time working as a nurse for 12 hr shifts.
I have sleep apnea, arthritis and I feel way too old for my age

I just keep telling myself that I can do this.  I really need some good support and friends along the way so feel free to contact me and join me for my journey to the loser's bench.
