Hi,

Looking for some advice...since my surgery it seems my tastes have changed drastically and I cannot choke down anything sweet. Hence having a really hard time getting in the protein. I feel exhausted all the time and have no energy. I have a call into my nutritionist but honestly not expecting a lot of help. (different story****ep trying to just suck it up and drink but its just not happening. Never would have guessed this would be my problem. I did just get some unflavored powder but not quite sure what to do with it. I tried adding to milk, couldn't get past the smell. Am able to get some mixed into soup. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas? Down 21 lbs since surgery, so happy about that but getting concerned about my energy level and feel like its due to lack of nutrition. Thanks in advance.

I'm two weeks post-op and been struggling with the same issue. I haven't reached my minimum goal yet, but came close. I've tried pre made protein shakes and yogurt. I just got some new protein powder that is not as sweet and trying it. I'll see how it goes.

I've only lost 9 pounds since surgery.  I lost 7 pounds the first week and 2 pounds this week.  I thought that might have been an issue but you seem to be doing great even without reaching the protein. So, I'm not sure what my issue is.

This part is tough. Thanks for the feedback. I have a lot of weight to loose overall (ideally 200 lbs) so that is probably the difference in weight lose. Hang in there : )

Puree some canned chicken with lentil soup.  Or eat some canned chicken smashed up with some mayo.

put the protein powder in refried beans.

Premier Protein Shakes. You can get them at costco. Each 11 oz shake is 30 grams of protein. I still drink them at 6 months out.

Is it the favored protein or plain?

Unjury chicken broth saved me as a savory option.  I reached a point where I just couldn't to anything sweet.  It was not going to happen.  Check with your own program/NUT/office..... but what worked for me was to mix my unflavored Unjury protein powder in 6-8 oz. of V-8 juice. It raises carbs a bit more, and my NUT was initially skeptical, but that SAVED me.  If you don't do low sodium, you need to add to your water intake to compensate for the sodium.  At that point in my recovery, that was my tried and true option for hitting my protein targets.
