People not commenting about weight loss

Ok, this may sound strange but I am getting annoyed with my coworkers. I have lost about 60lbs in the last 8 months going from size 20 to a size 12. None of my coworkers have said anything. My doctor says that I look very different and doesn't believe me when I say I get no comments. It's frustrating because sometimes I have a hard time seeing the difference myself and it doesn't help that no one is making positive comments about my weight loss.

Many people, myself included, believe it is impolite to comment on other people's weight. I lost 160 pounds before my students commented. They were middle schoolers and knew it was impolite (the only reason they did was because yearbooks came out the last week of school). Be thankful.

If you need validation from others to make yourself feel better, you need to work on changing that mindset.

I went through the same thing at my office. Most people have never said a word (even some that know about my surgery)... however, I talk to so many people, that some have started comenting... I mostly end up telling them about my surgery because I can't stand it not to. I've had two people at work reach out to me about the surgery, one for herself, and one for her dad. But I'm pretty much an open book. So there's that.

But during that time that no one said a word (and even now with the couple of people that know that don't comment at all), I was frustrated also. And, while I don't necessarily need other people's confirmation of my success, I do like it.

People who you see everyday won't see the change as dramatically as people who only see you occasionally. There are only 3 people in my job that have acknowledged my weight loss and quiet frankly,  I don't care for the attention.

I changed jobs right after surgery so no one I work with now knew me at my highest weight. People from my prior position don't even recognize me now.

It can possibly be considered harassment for people to comment on your weight. Please don't rely on others to give you validation.

First it took losing a good 60-80lbs before people began saying anything... People mostly just said 'oh you look good..." or something more along those lines rather than Wow you lost weight. Esp. at work it can be awkward unless you are close to someone... If you aren't talking about your weight loss efforts casually...whether you mention surgery or not, others may not feel comfortable bringing it up....

I never considered that people may think its rude to comment. I always thought it was rude when I was at my biggest when people would comment about diets  but it didn't dawn on me that it could be rude to comment about weight loss. I just figure if you bring up diets when I was big, you can say good job now that I'm smaller.

When you're MO, it generally takes a loss of about 50 pounds before people notice.

Nowadays, co-workers may have a fear about mentioning your weight loss due to "discrimination", "harassment", etc.  It's a shame it has come down to being afraid to compliment someone or ask about their health...

It's inappropriate to comment on a coworkers weight (people do...but it's inappropriate). If you are a "friend" and go out to lunch off site, it may be appropriate (it depends...sexual harassment is such a big issue..anything can be misconstrued).
