im 4 weeks post op and for the last 3 days, anytime I eat food, i end up vomiting. I know a few times I've eaten too much or too big of bites, but I'm wondering if maybe my connection is swollen now? I'm not sure what to do. Any thought would be helpful

Eat super small amounts and chew them 20+ times.  This early out, you may want to go back to shakes or pureed food for a day or two to let your stomach heal.  The surgery is the easy part - adjusting our brains to realize that 1 ounce or 2 ounces of food is enough is a WHOLE other issue!  I still (at 2+ years out) get the foamies and vomit sometimes...but 99% of the time, it's because I ate too much or too fast.  Try to train yourself to eat slowly and eat a very small amount and then wait.  This early out you want to set up good habits to get you to goal and help you maintain.  Good luck!

I would call your surgeon, it could be a strictor or it could be that you are not chewing your food good enough. Remember each bite you need to chew at least 25-30 times prior to swallowing.

If it's happening every time you eat I would call your surgeon, especially if you are measuring your food carefully. Chewing is so important as the other posters said but it could also be a stricture developing. Give your surgeon a call.

What is a stricture?  Thanks!

So sorry to hear you're having vomiting problems, Deb!

It's a scarring that can happen as you heal that causes narrowing of the stoma. If it narrows too much you can have problems with food going through. The doctor can insert a scope down your throat and use a Ballon to stretch the area if needed. Not really a big deal and easily fixed.

Check your paperwork. I know mine said something about how long to go without being able to keep anything down before seeking medical attention. If you start throwing up liquids too, go to the er. Otherwise, stick to shakes to give yourself a break and make an appointment with your surgeon if it doesn't get better after a day of shakes. Irritation does happen, but if it doesn't get better, you could have a stricture.

From listening to support group members talk, strictures are not all alike.  Some report the inability to keep water down where others had a narrowing instead of a total closure and went weeks without getting their stricture taken care of.  You are in the ball park range when strictures commonly develop; a phone call to your medical team is warranted.  Good Luck.

I was at my surgeons yesterday. He said take small bites and chew. I know some of it is my fault, too big of bites or not chewing enough. It doesn't happen every time I eat-so I am getting some food in. My surgeon released me to eat anything. I was surprised at that but I'm still going to take it slow :). On a better note...I'm off the insulin pump!! Woo hoo!!!

Thank you all for your help! I'm going to slow down and see if it gets better
