Diet Confusion

Folks,

If I cut out all "white" and "processed food" will that be considered "low carb"?

I figured that If I can work within a set caloric value and cut out those items that I should be eating pretty clean. Is this true?

Thanks. Do you eat any salads? If so, do you add dressing?

I usually make my own dressing with a Dukes Mayo base because it has no sugar. We add dry Italian seasoning, buttermilk, and Bleu Cheese crumbles. It has fat, but we do it because the sugar issue. Is something like that acceptable?

What criteria should be used for condiments, dressings, and sauces?

It really is. You take out a cup of mayo out of the jar; then replace it with a cup of Buttermilk and the seasonings. It is probably the best dressing I've ever tasted. But, we went to it because of no sugar. But, I want to thoroughly research it before using it after surgery.

Just be careful with Mayo, its got a lot of fat (not that it is necessarily bad) but a lot is usually saturated fats and cholesterol. So keep it as minimal as possible.

I make mine with Mayo, buttermilk and blue cheese crumbles.  But, I'm a Atkinite and didn't want sugar.

That is the reason we went to this recipe. No sugar.

Yes and your dressing sounds good. I lean toward blue cheese or I have been using this stuff called Annies Naturals Gingerly that is really good too. But what you described should work well.

Read labels look at how many carbohydrates are in it and how much of them are sugar versus fiber. You want something that is less than 6grams per serving.
