So my question for today is ...

do you still drink protein drinks AFTER you are over this whole liquid stage thing AFTER surgery?! OR do you MOSTLY get your protein in via food? OR a little of both? Just curious....

The goal, after clear, full liquid, and purees is to get your protein from food and not the drinks...

You can't get anywhere near enough protein with just food so even after those stages you have to supplement with protein shakes.

I'm a week shy of 3 months out and I need 1 protein shake a day to keep my levels high enough. will be glad when the day comes and all my protein will come from food~ Good luck~

I am a little over one year out and still have protein shake every morning. I just mix syntrax protein powder with coffee. ( mix protein powder with a littke carbmaster milk and then add to coffee so it does not clump). I think some try to avoid protein drinks because they do not keep you full very long compared to dense protein like meat and fish. I cannot eat for a couple of hours after I wake up so the protein coffee works for me.

It's best to get your protein from whole foods but until you are 6+ months out you will likely need to supplement with protein shakes. I am 4 and half months out and I still drink at least one a day, two if I have a veggie heavy day.

I haven't had a protein shake since a couple months out - I get mine in via food without any problem.

Everyone is different. Many plans call for you to get off the liquid calories as soon as possible. I'm 14 months out and still have a protein coffee every morning and often have a 'recovery' shake after a work out. For me to get my required protein for the amount of working out I do would keep me eating all day long. It would be ridiculous, so I believe I need to continue to drink at least one shaek per day.

Well, whether you can or can't get enough protein in with food.....I use the pre-made ones (Premier) about once a day because they are portable and I can easily bring them out and about with me....I'm too busy to sit and eat a little bowl of cottage cheese when I'm at the mall...lol
