I know I know my surgeon said no chewing gun because it causes gas. Well I am 3 weeks 4 days out and I've been chewing my gum no problem. Here's the freakin problem!!! I SWALLOWED MY GUM AND IM SCARED :/ please someone tell me they swallowed and were just fine.
On a funny note when my daughter was very young I'd tell her 'don't swallow your gum. It'll clog your booty hole' WTH this is my karma

My understanding is, swallowing gum is only a serious issue with the band. But don't hold me to it. I'm sure others will chime in.

I was sleeved on 02/20 and at about a month out I accidentally swallowed gum.  I was freaked out for a while, but nothing abnormal has happened to me.  I had just bought the big multi packs of gum, but after that incident I gave the gum to my kids and bought myself Tic Tacs and sugar free mints.

When I was a kid they always said don't swallow gum because it will take 7 years to digest - so with sleeve digestion it must be like 14 years!  Your gonna have that gum with you for a long time lol!

You should be fine!

My doctor actually addressed this with me once. He said if I ever swallowed gum I would have to go to him immediately to have him remove it. I'm guessing they'd send a scope down? He said that it takes up room and keeps your stomach constantly working trying to break it down. He did not go further into detail, but enough to scare me out of chewing gum. I would guess food may also have a hard time passing if it is taking up a large portion and it may also trick our minds? I would call your doctor to see what their protocol is.

I was told no gum ever because it can get stuck at your pyloric valve. If you aren't able to drink water or eat in about 24 hours, call the doc and he may have to use a scope to get it out. It will probably pass, but you really shouldn't chew it in the future.

You'll probably be fine, but if you have any weird symptoms, I suggest you check in by phone with your doctor.

Also, do be aware that even sugar-free gum has carbs, and some studies indicate that chewing gum prompts the stomach to release acid because it fools it into expecting food to be delivered.

For me, it's just been easier to avoid gum.
