Protein foods
The only way I get in enough protein is by still having a protein shake a day. The rest of the food I eat during the day is some kidn of protein. No way I could do it without a shake. I am 6 and a half weeks out and my protein is always over 80 grams a day.
Oh gosh I am nowhere near that amount I'm getting in 25-30 and I'm a picky eater so I could probably be better off with the protein shakes! But I wasn't sure if I could still take them. How do you manage to finish the whole thing and still eat? This sucks I don't wanna not be taking in enough protein and end up losing my hair. I'm scared!
I eat on a schedule:
While driving to work at 7am - protein shake
10:00 - snack
1:00 - Lunch
4:30 - Snack
7:00 - Dinner
9:30 - Snack
The hair loss happens regardless of how much protein you eat. It doesn't happen to everyone but it is likely. I have begun to make peace with the fact that it is going to happen and that it WILL grow back.
Hi--do you have a food plan from your surgeon? It should tell you how much protein, etc you should be getting. Or a nutritionist? If not, it might be good to meet with one.
That being said, you might have to let go of your pickiness for a while, we have all eaten lots of stuff we don't want to. It's about what we are SUPPOSED to eat, right? Not what we WANT to eat.
At the beginning I set my alarm for three meals and three snacks a day because I was not hungry.
I measured my food and ate what I could.
I drank protein shakes.
Fish saved my life. So did smoked salmon and cream cheese.
Protein first!

I do have a question about beans... I know they have a good bit of protein, but aren't they a bit high in the carbs? I LOVE beans, but wondering if they should even be in my future diet because of the carbs.

Yes they are, but they are slow digesting and low glycemic. I eat primarily black beans and I do keep them to a minimum. They are a decent source of fiber which with all the protein we eat early out we do not get enough of. You are about to get to the point where you will start to have poopie problems and you will want to factor in some foods that have high fiber to combat it. In the beginning you will need myralax and collasce to help but down the road you will figure out which forms of fiber impact your carbs and which do not. Most fiber is not digestible so you can subtract it from total carbs. Same with sugar alcohols although some are partially digestible so you have to be careful with that one.
All told, and there are those on here that would argue with me, you will be fine including beans in your diet. At the end of the day you really care more about not spiking your blood sugar and insulin responses. Now if you are going for hard core ketosis, cut the beans out.
