Hi all.  I have my surgery scheduled for Sept 5th and I'm nervous, not about the surgery but about the week of clear fluid prep.  Any advice????

Keep in mind that "clear" liquids are different for each program. Most will include broth, jello and popsicles (both sugar-free) along with things like Crystal Light and hot decaf tea. I had a "full" liquid diet for 2 weeks pre-op (whi*****luded protein shakes along with clear liquids), 24 hours pre-op of clear and 7 days post-op of clear.

On clear liquids I generally did broth around meal times so I felt like I was "eating" something and used a lot of SF pops. Best of luck! Remember, it's only temporary. The first 3 days are the worst and then it gets better.

Drink constantly to stave off hunger.  That's about the only advice I can give you as my pre-op prep was very different.

Good luck!

My advice is to spend a few days getting your head into the game. Visualize your success and tell yourself you will do it to the letter and you will.

The pre-op liquid diet was not fun, but it was bearable.  I was dieting and low carbing before the liquid diet, so that helped with diminishing the cravings.   I just kept my eye on the prize, knowing the ultimate weight loss was worth the effort.  Soon it'll be behind you, and you'll be watching the pounds go forever!

best wishes,

Carol

Thanks for the great advice.  It helps to know that others have "been there, done that".

You're my neighbor to the north.  Where are you having your surgery?

Yay!! Welcome to the journey to the loser's bench! Good luck to you! I won't lie, the diet is not fun and it's difficult at times. But it is very do-able. I had to do a 2 week diet. Each doctor is different with what they allow. I was able to have 1-3 protein drinks/day, broths, SF popsicles, SF jello, water (lots of water), SF soda, SF tea, lean deli turkey meat, and plain tuna. The turkey and the tuna were life savers! And the popsicles were a great bedtime snack. The day before surgery, I was on strictly clear liquids. My doctor said my liver looked excellent! I was pretty hungry the 3rd day. Drinking LOTS of water really helped that. It got much easier after 3-4 days. Eat as much of the food on your list as you want. I tried to keep it to breakfast, lunch, supper type schedule with "snacks" between. Just keep your "eye on the prize" and remember why you are doing the diet. One week of suffering is totally worth the end result!!!
