I'm new to the Board, but I'm very excited!!!!  I'm scheduled for surgery on the 17th and have started my pre-op liquid diet.  Any tips?

Welcome!  Follow the plan; give up any thought that you know better than the surgeon and nutritionist.  Right after surgery, you'll hear "walk and sip, walk and sip" for good reason, so do it!  If you haven't already, start logging your food, water and exercise - MyFitnessPal is a good site but there are others.

The next few days are gonna suck; deal with it.  Your body is going to be detoxing from carbs and you're gonna be *****y, hungry, and want to quit every moment.  Don't do it.

After surgery, you might be *****y and emotional - hormones are stored in fat cells and they're gonna go crazy!

3 or months after surgery, you might start losing some hair.  If you've done a good job with your protein intake, you can minimize that.  It stops falling out after a couple of months and then you get cute little tufts of hair in its place.

Don't sweat the small stuff, but do sweat.  For the first month, you'll only be allowed to walk for exercise.  DO IT - no excuses!  If you can't seem to get motivated, do what I did and sign up for a 5K 6 weeks after surgery (walking, not running).

Read this board - absorb it.  A lot of people here really know what they're talking about!

Good luck!

^ Ditto!

Couldn't have said it better myself!

The only thing that I'll add is to do as much research as you can on the actual surgery. I found several youtube videos of the procedure and it calmed my nerves. Going into surgery knowing PRECISELY what is going to happen to you is important. Be an informed patient! Also, there are a TON of youtube vlogs of people who have gone before us. My favorite was always TheSlimJen. She documented her journey from day 0 and gave a lot of excellent inside info.

Best of luck!!

Good Luck- my surgery is also on the 17th.  3rd day into my pre-op liquids only diet.  No fun but I'm doing pretty well.
