Need 2 know basic
So, i'll be going for my vsg tuesday and today i am starting to get everything needed that i dont already have. My question is that i really haven't gotten to exactly what vitamins and supplements i should get. My last preop is with my surgeon monday and i have2 other appointments to cover also that was cancelled because of the weather here. So i'm at the point that i really dont want to wait until monday to get this answer then will have to rush and forget things. Can anyone help plz.
My surgeon requires a daily multi (just an adult gummy One A Day is fine), calcium citrate daily, and B complex once a week... Everyone's requirements are different, so I'd wait until you get specific instructions before going out and dropping a lot of $$.

I bought a bottle of chewable Spectravite at CVS along with chewable calcium. I didnt start them until day 4. I then gradually added in the others that they wanted us to take.
For surgery I was happy to have a chapstick, breath spray (bianca), and a pillow for the ride home...it helped with the bumps!
Excited for you! I am so happy that i did it!
The basics: 2 adult multivitamins a day; calcium citrate, 500mg x 3 times a day for a total of 1500mg a day; sublingual B12; iron if anemic or still ovulating. Other things that are suggested - biotin for your hair and nails, a PPI/acid reducer for some time after surgery. That's about it. The list will vary over time depending on your labs. You may end up needing vitamin D for example, but that's only if needed.
My surgeon requires 2 multivitamins (flintstone complete chewable have the iron needed). 1200-1500 mg calcium a day (I do 2 600mg caltrate chewable tablets a day). Iron if still have periods, b12 either one shot a month or sublingual daily, 2000mg vitamin d
its pretty simple. All are available at walgreens

I've read a lot on here that Flintstone's are not recommended post-op. This post has some interesting information if you scroll down -- http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/4303570/Flintstone-Vitamins/
Also - Caltrate is calcium carbonate, not calcium citrate.

Heh, I noticed that too! But the author's other points seem valid - especially on the selenium note.

My doc's guidelines seem to be more in line with the ASMBS recommendations than some others here.
Calcium Citrate 1500-2000/day (no more than 500 at a time)
Multi-Vitamin with 100% DRV 2/day
Iron (carbonyl) 18-30mg/day (2 hours apart from Calcium)
B-12 500-1000 mcg/day
Vitamin D3 depending on deficiency level
I've ordered all of my vitamins from Bariatric Advantage - my NUT gave me samples to try at my first appointment so I could figure out the flavors I like. I ordered a 90-day supply initially. I might stick with them after I'm out of the chewable phase just because I know they're good and it'll be easier than finding new ones to take!
