Muscle Milk VSG 2014
I'm having surgery in 5 days and I'm trying to find the best protein shake for me. My doctor sells Bariatric Advantage which taste good but makes me very nauseated. I think it's vitamin overload because vitamins tend to make me nauseated anyway. If it makes me nauseated pre-op, I can't imagine what it would do post-op. I have a gag reflex every time I even smell it. I'm a little worried about that. I just had a 11oz. chocolate muscle milk. I really liked it and I have had no ill side effect. It has 20G protein, 9 carbs, 3 sugar. Is this bad/good? Someone at support group meeting told me it's what they drink. Any suggestions?
That seems a little high on the carbs to me, and on the low side for protein considering it's 11 ounces.
My favorites are double rich chocolate and peanut butter cookie. I mix them with almond milk in a Blender Bottle which is great since it protects my nose from the smell. I like the powders that I mix myself a lot better than the ready made shakes because I have more control over them.
The Muscle Milk 40 seems like a decent option -- http://www.musclemilk.com/products/ready-drink/pro-series-40 / -- 40 prots for 220 calories.
The Light version seems suboptimal too. Only 14 grams of protein. I really like to aim for 25 in an 8 ounce serving.

I like Premier Protein which has 30 grams of protein and less chemically aftertaste than I find with Muscle Milk. Since it's higher in protein you might be able to cut it with water or skim milk to avoid the nausea. Good luck!
As far as I know you can only get it online. I bought the sample pack and liked them all. I gave my mom the iced coffee because I don't like coffee flavored things. She said it was good. I have found Chike at Netrition.com as well, but they only have the coffee. When I ordered I got them in 2 days, quick delivery, where I am, a couple containers cost me $15.00 in shipping! But to me, the powder is worth it.
I used Muscle Milk when I was in my pre-op stage trying to lose enough weight to qualify for my insurance to pay my surgery. I moved to Premier Protein after the surgery due to high amount of protein in a single 11oz drink. I thought Muscle Milk has a pretty decent taste but I definitely prefer Premier Protein now. That being said, if you live in an area with no Cosco, like me, Premier Protein can be a little harder to attain. So, you just have to weigh the good vs. bad.
