What's one thing you would tell "the you" from before surgery?

Awesome question. Good luck with surgery!  I'm about 3 months away from surgery! I'm trying to prepare mentally. The response are super helpful!

These are great, thanks everyone!  I'm definitely anxious about the actual surgery/recovery, but I'm more excited than anything else for what's to come.

I would thank myself for being practical and taking lip balm with me to the hospital.  Going from midnight Tuesday until 11am Thursday without being able to drink was a long time and I was glad I was permitted to brush my teeth and use lip balm to be comfortable.

That this is a journey and a complete life style change!  Don't get upset at first when the scale doesn't move - lots of stalls along the way.  I also would have shocked myself by telling myself that I would become an exercise addict - (Nope - this gal - no way) but couldn't have made these changes without my 3 times a week appointment with my trainer.

I also would tell myself that at a year out - it is easy to slip back into bad habits - grazing, etc.  It is a constant battle to work on the emotional eating!

I'm still working on it - have 25-30 pounds to go!

Good luck!

Congrats on you decision to have this life changing experience. If I could go back to before the surgery and "coach" me on what to expect I would suggest a REGULAR weekly session with a therapist for at least the first 2 months. The head trip from this procedure is brutal! I have been an emotional eater all my life so when I was unable to binge it was like a death in the family. The depression I had in those 2 months was insane. However, now that I am 1/2 to my goal weight and have gotten use to  the fact that my diet is changed forever, all is right as rain! I hope that helps

I can identify with this one for sure--still working through what to do with myself/feelings/emotions as I can't eat through them now. I'm using 2 books on emotional eating and journaling through the process.
