How long did you wait to call insurance?
Tried this in general discussion but people just read it and don't respond. I know my VSG peeps are awesome at responding!
My surgeon's office submitted to insurance on Tuesday. I was just wondering how long you waited before you called to see if you were approved or did you even call. How will I know if I'm approved or not if I don't call. Is there an actual letter that comes? (Ugh snail mail) Does insurance call or does my dr. office call? I know every insurance is different just wondering what you did.
Thanks!
Hi Laura. My surgeon's office said that the insurance company will contact them to let them know whether or not I get approved, and then the surgeon's office will call me. Not sure if the insurance company will notify them via letter, fax, phone, email or what...

My surgeon's office called me when the approval was completed. I did also get a letter in the mail directly from the insurance company with the approval as well. I don't know if all insurance companies send the patient a letter. I have BCBS Iowa. They also submit this approval electronically thru BCBS. It only took about a week to hear back from them.
Good luck to you!!
My advocate told me they would submit the paper work to Aetna and let me know when they found out.
A week later I called Aetna directly and was told they had 20 business days to respond (4weeks) and that they would call when they made their decision.
Two and half weeks later, when the time was almost up, I called Aetna directly again, she said, "Oh yeah, that was already approved last week."
I called my Doctors office and they had not received that info yet. I have learned to be pro active when it comes to myself.
