Sipping from Straw after VSG???

I'm 7 days out and drank from a straw today. This is the first day I've had a burning sensation in my throat and don't feel as well as usual. Is this from the straw? I don't see anything in my information about not drinking from a straw but I remember in the hospital it was noted on my meal tray guidelines, "no straw". Curious.

I was instructed to never drink from a straw after VSG. It causes you to swallow too much air.

I bet I was told that pre-op but didn't remember. Well, lesson learned.

I think all of us are told that, but not all ot us have issues with straws post-op.  I actually swallow more air without one than I do with one.  So now I drink with straws whenever possible to avoid the extra air in my gut.

Me three!  I use a straw whenever possible.  I keep a HUGE bag of them at home.

Some people have no problems with straws, some do. We're you drinking something new? Or at a different temperature?

I was advised to avoid straws for the first 2 months, which I did. I'm a week shy of 3 months post-op and drink from a straw regularly now (it helps me get in all my fluids). It doesn't bother me at all, but I know others that say they've never been able to drink from a straw after surgery.

I too was advised not to use a straw due to the amount of air you take in, but I find I can drink easier with a straw and have a lot less discomfort and belching when I use one. I guess you have to use your intuition on this one.
