1 year ago I weighed in at 256.  My high weight in my life is 274.  Today I weighed in at 132.  I'm just so thrilled.  My jeans are a size 6, my shirts are size S, and I feel wonderful.  Do I have excess skin?  Yep.  Is my hair still very thin?  Yep.  Does any of this matter to me?  Sure, sometimes, but not as much as fat did.  I have become healthy and vibrant and I am not seeking perfection.  I consider myself to be an absolute success and am happy to be maintaining comfortably (Of course, I'm only 3 months into maintenance....).

The skin and hair are the worst parts of the experience.  I'm also experiencing low blood sugar episodes and vertigo.  Am learning how to work through them and they've improved immensely.

Now for the great things...the reasons for which I would never, ever change my decision:
1.  I can physically do anything I want to do.

2.  I'm a kayaker now.  My husband bought me a kayak for Christmas and it might be the best gift I've ever gotten.  I love to kayak for exercise and then take breaks to watch birds and sketch them or do a little reading.  Great exercise and great meditative time.  I would never have tried kayaking 1 yr ago.

3.  I can wear anything I want.  I feel comfortable in everything in my closet.  I no longer buy clothes just because they have my size...I can be picky.

4.  Shoes are comfortable again.  All shoes.

5.  Boots

6.  Public restrooms

7.  I keep up with my children.

8.  My 12 hr shifts no longer wear me out.  I have energy when I come home.

9.  I smile...a lot.

10.  Public seating - hockey games, baseball games, movies, Broadway shows.

11.  I now participate.  I'm a participator.  Last year I was merely an observer in my own life.

What an amazing gift that I gave to myself.  I worked hard, hard, hard for it...and the payoff has been enormous.
