Honeymoon Period?? Calories?

I've seen a few people refer to the "honeymoon" period. What does this mean exactly?

Also, I've seen a few people mentioning counting calories. Is there a calorie range you attempt to stay within? I logged my pureed food in MFP today and feel like I'm above what I see other people mention they are at. Trying to eat high protein foods. I did puree chicken breast with some broth and it was good. I just want to have the best advantage I can during this early phase.

As always, THANKS for reading and responding!

I am 6 months out. I stay between 600 to 800 calories a day and less than 30 grams of carbs. I try to stay on the lower end of the range as much as possible.

What does a typical day look like for you if you don't mind me asking? Just trying to get an idea of what people are eating (foods and quantities). Thanks!

I am a creature of habit with my food. For me it makes it easier to stay on track if I know what is planned. I have never been a big breakfast fan. And I prepare for a late snack because I know that I always prefer to eat late. I make sure I allow it in my calories for the day. A normal day for me..

Breakfast - protein shake

Lunch - 2.5 to 3 ounces of chicken or turkey. Maybe some bbq sauce or salsa with it.

Supper - 3 oz of whatever meat is cooked. Steak, chops etc. And maybe a spoon of whatever veggie is fixed.

Snack - 1/2 serving of almonds or half serving of shake or piece of cheese

With RNY the honeymoon period is the roughly 18 months of malabsorption.  I am not sure what VSG honeymoon would be but see it used here a lot.  Roughly what it means is that it is easier to lose weight in the beginning.  Your sleeve capacity is smaller, your motivation is higher and you have not become bored with the food plan.

Lose as much weight as you can as quickly as you can.  It always gets harder as time goes by.

One thing I have found helpful is to get lots of friends on MFP (wls friends) who have open food diaries. That way I can check and see exactly what they are eating. My diary wouldn't be of much use to you now (I am 2+ years post-op) but here is a random day from my diary when I was on purees:

Breakfast: 3 tablespoons refried beans, 1 tablespoon shredded Mexican blend cheese, hot sauce

Lunch: 3 tablespoons nonfat cottage cheese

Dinner: 1.5 oz chicken breast, pureed with 1.5 T low carb bbq sauce, 1 T. shredded mozzarella melted on top

Snacks: 6 oz Isopure RTD protein, 1 Premier Protein shake, protein shake made w/ 1/2 scoop Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel protein powder, 1 no-sugar-added ice cream pop.

Totals for the day: 528 calories, 76 grams protein, 29 grams carbs.

Here is a day from me back in March about 6 months out.  I was at 1,000 calories per day then.
