Can artificial sweeteners cause weight gain?

According to my Nutritionist, no. I do however hear stories about Splenda and Equal stalling folks but I personally have not had any issues with artificial sweeteners.

Unless you're eating pounds and pounds worth, they cannot.

No, just with my unsweet tea. Maybe 4 glasses a day with two sweet & low sweetener per glass.

Nope, you'll be fine.

For me, I believe they increased my cravings for carbs. I had a tough time remaining at my goal weight when I consumed a lot of Splenda. When I cut it out of my diet, the cravings stopped and keeping my weight off has been much easier. For me, I believe there was a connection. If it does not affect you that way, then don't worry about it.

Yes and no. They're noncaloric, so by the laws of physics, they can't cause weight gain on their own. However, some people find that they give them a taste for sweet things -- if you wind up upping your sugar (or overall carb) intake because of them, then you could gain weight.

No science based evidence that it does... a lot of people say it does... a lot of those people are paid for by the sugar industry ;)
