How much Pre-Op Weight Loss?

What kind of weight loss did everybody experience before the surgery due to the diet?  I have lost 30 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks and I'm just wondering if that's "normal."  Thanks everybody!  I'm loving this website and virtual community!  :)

I lost 20 my first month on the 3 month supervised pre-op diet, and I thought I was doing great!  30 pounds in less than a month is awesome.  Congratulations!

That's fantastic. The better job you do now, the easier it will be after surgery.

Some gain before surgery. I think that just makes it harder to reach goal.

My nutritionist is a bit intimidating - the people in the office call her "The General."  She made it clear in the information seminar that if we came in before surgery weighing more than we did before the pre-op diet, there would be consequences.  Haha  I was a bit nervous to meet with her by myself, but she was and is great.

Congrats!

I think it varies by person.  I lost a total pre-op of 30 pounds so you are doing awesome :)

I think "normal" varies so keep losing weight and doing great!

I had a 10-day pre-op liquid diet, but I started modifying my diet 2.5 months before surgery.  I lost 25 pounds between January 1, 2014 and my surgery date.

I lost 24.5 pounds prior to my surgery. I did two months on my own low cal plan then had to maintain the loss over Thanksgiving while I waited for surgery and then had only a two day pre surgery diet, so that didn't really add to the weight loss.

My pre-op diet only lasted a week and a half and I only lost about 5 pounds. However, I had to do 3 months of supervised weight loss and from Feb. 2015 to mid Sept., I lost 22.5 pounds (including the pre-op loss). I started on the low end of the required BMI range, so I'm losing slower I think.

Despite my surgeon's "requirement" that I lose 30 pounds before the surgery, I didn't lose anything but managed to maintain my high weight, and even that was through heroic effort on my part. At the end of the pre-op weeks of liquids, I lost 10 pounds.

So your loss of 30 pounds in less than a month is better than "normal"; it's downright amazing! The more you can lose before surgery, the better for your surgery and weight-loss efforts afterward.

Thanks everybody for your responses.  It's good to know where I'm at.  Before now, I thought I wasn't going to lose enough or shrink my liver enough and I have been paranoid about it!  It's been rough with all of these temptations around, but I've survived without cheating at all, somehow!  Surgery on Wednesday for me!  :D
