Hello All,

Has anyone ever heard of this illness after the sleeve surgery? CDIF comes from antibiotics that are put into your stomach after surgery .  my friend who had the bypass said she wasn't sure if this was done with the sleeve.

What is CDIF? Obviously I've never heard of it, but I didn't want your question to go completely unanswered.

You don't always see them but you always know they're there.

CDIF is not caused by antibiotics. It's a bacterial infection. Broad spectrum antibiotics can kill friendly bacteria that allow CDIF to multiply. But that sort of antibiotic is generally only an issue with extended use on longer term care patients, not RNY or VSG patients. Unless you have complications from surgery that require a long hospitalization, you are at extremely low risk.

Google Clostridium Difficle. It's a spore-forming bacteria that is often associated with the use of antibiotics.
