Hi everyone!!! I am back!!! Surgery was on Monday, April 23rd. Was scheduled for 2:00 however, those before me ran a bit later than anticipated and I did not get into the OR till about 4:00. Surgery lasted 2 1/2 hrs. then one hour in recovery. I was in my room by about 7:45pm. Thank God for the morphine pump!! It was my very best friend for a while. Pain was there but under control at all times. I was back home at 12:00 on Wednesday, exactly 48 hrs after leaving home!! I am very sore, and the five incisions which are stapled closed are now turning black and blue all around them, and spreading. I think my entire stomach will be purple soon. Staples will be removed on Tuesday. Morristown Memorial Hospital was fine, no problems at all. Dr. Nicholas Bertha is just fantastic. The anesthesia team were also great. The staff in the pre-op holding area were angels. They kept conversation going to pass time and keep you occupied. My husband was all I could have hoped for, he has been a wonderful partner and helper through all of this. I had clear liquids at the hospital and at home on Wednesday and early Thursday. Spoke with nurse at obesity center and she said I could have coffee with milk (!) and start some soft foods like yogurt, cottage cheese, Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes etc. I have lots of info and suggestions I will post on the message board. It really was not as bad as I expected. I walked to my neighbors yesterday. I AM NOT sorry I have done this, I know that the best is yet to come. To all the pre-ops out there....hang in there, go in with a positive attitude, pain meds will help and soon you will be home again. Good luck and God Bless.joseph B. 23 years ago
