8 weeks! Wow!

Jul 09, 2014

So 8 weeks out and doing much better! Nausea has pretty much subsided. Learning what my pouch likes and doesn't like. Down 31 lbs since surgery. Super excited because now I am in size XL and not just in women's!!! Omg I can't remember how long ago it's been! I was in 2xl plus women's and they were getting tight and some 3xl before surgery! Anyhow, figured I needed to check in. Also posted a new side by side pic too!

1month appt

Jun 17, 2014

So...went to the dr yesterday for my 1 month post op and she thinks I am having esophageal spasms. She sent me to do the upper gi swallow test and the radiologist dr pretty much agreed. Apparently these can be causing the nausea too. So she prescribed me 2 meds so crossing my fingers they help. Also went to the dietician and learned of new things I can start eating! This is wonderful because I have been soooo bored of the same food and needed some variety in my life! I should be getting a call soon with the official results of my test. On the flip side...I have lost 28 lbs since surgery and a total of 50 this year! I am posting an updated side by side pic :)

So it has been a rough few days. Went to work part time last week and started feeling crappy on Friday but thought maybe I ate to fast or something didn't agree or whatever. Monday rolled around and my or al morning dizzy/light headedness turned into all day and headaches and nausea after eating anything and low blood pressure and just plain misery. the pcp took me off the Bp med to hopefully help that and had me stay home from work Tuesday and then today... Well I thought I was doing a little better and tried to go to work. Bad idea....halfway to driving my daughter to daycare, I felt like I was going to pass out so I pulled over and I was getting tingly and numb all over and couldn't breathe. I called my husband and he picked us up and took me to the ER. They pumped 2 bags of IV fluid in me and ran a billion tests and determined that he thought it was a combination of dehydration and low blood pressure and is having me call my surgeons office tomorrow to see about eating since I get nauseous but he prescribed nausea medicine also. So this week is shot. He doesn't want me going to work until I see my dr Monday. On the bright side I am down 25 lbs in 4 weeks!

So I had my first real breakdown since surgery last night. I was crying about everything. I tried to cook chicken for everyone else and it was making me nauseous even though it smelled great to everyone else. I was tired of drinking water and every time I tried something like crystal light that was sugar free it was gross. I hate fake sweeteners and always have. Then I was upset because I was getting bored of the same food everyday. I looked at my list and plan and found some more options.  I wish sometimes I could guzzle my water when I get thirsty. I know this is what I chose for my future to be healthy for my family and it's just part of the drill I guess. My husband is so supportive and let me just cry on his shoulder. Then I felt better and was able to calm down. I think I may be starting the 3 week stall as I haven't lost anything since tues. I'm glad I'm only back to work part time because I get tired even just after 4 hours!

I had my first real food today!!! I actually got to chew! It was a learning experience for sure having to chew so much and so slow but I'm glad I tested the waters with scrambled eggs and not something else. My incisions are feeling a bit better everyday and I don't have as much pain where the hernia repair was done. On an exciting note...I have lost a total of 35 lbs since the end of Jan and 13 lbs since the surgery!! This is definitely a lot of work every day but I am very thankful to have some of my medications already lowered and things already improving!  I did get a little light headed/dizzy the other day but drank electrolytes and it went away so I think I may have been slightly dehydrated.

Post op appt

May 22, 2014

Went to my post op appt today and have lost 11 pounds already!!! Healing very nicely and staples are out now. They were starting to get irritating so I'm glad they are gone. Still have pain but able to manage for more hours and not waking up in the middle of the night to take it so I think it is getting close to not needing it. I start work a week from Monday for 2 weeks part time and then onto full time. Protein intake along with everything else is getting easier with each day so that's nice. Will post again soon...

Update for 1 wk

May 20, 2014

Okay so I did pretty good with my protein shakes yesterday, however, it is really a lot of work to get all the protein and fluids in. I did not get it all in but close. I get full feeling at about 2 oz so it takes me 1 to 1 1/2 hrs to finish a 4 oz shake. Keeping track on myfitnesspal. Lost 7 lbs so far! Feeling better with each day. Just taking new sips slow and steady. Been up and moving around but probably need to not do so much yet because I think I have fatigue happening right around the same time every evening. I get emotional and nauseous and feel miserable. Not sure what else it could be. Craving real meat/eggs/protein for some reason.

Scared

May 18, 2014

I am scared as I sip the "full liquid" since I am transitioning today from clear to full. I decided to try cream if chicken soup and have only put down an ounce but I have anxiety about how it feels and if my new tummy will or won't like it. I can't imagine how this will be transitioning to soft foods in a couple weeks.

Day 2

May 15, 2014

Good morning peeps! Posting at random times I know...that's what happens in the hospital lol sleep gets all messed up. I think we are getting to go home today but not sure exactly when. Gotta get this sipping thing down to all the time so I don't get dehydrated. Pain is improving with each day and walking. Everyone here has been absolutely amazing and I am thankful I had my surgery here and no where else.  Talk to you all soon! Hope everyone has a lovely Friday!

Made it through

May 14, 2014

So I made it through the night. Very rough because there's so much gas/air built up it hurts and so does the hernia repair part and one of the incisions. I push the pain med button then fall asleep then it wears off and I wake up pushing it again every hour just about. Started to feel a little better and not nauseous once anesthesia started wearing off. I plan to get walking today as soon as I can. I will also get to have water sips today! One day at a time. Dr Valentine is so wonderful and funny! I was telling him before surgery yesterday how I thought it would make me less anxious to watch a surgery beforehand and he was telling me how he is very much the same. Guess what happened?! He said it was a great textbook surgery so he recorded it for himself and then also gave me one!
