Do I have an attitude????

Sep 26, 2011

It has been way too long since I have posted a new blog for discussion. Last month, I discussed “being positive” and I repeat similar thoughts this month as I firmly believe that our “waking attitude” affects 100% of our day. This month, please consider how your attitude affects those around you. As I am sure you all have been busy with life too, I will present these thoughts briefly for your consideration and comments.

Do I have an attitude?

Of course I do!

My attitude is one of conscious choice, just as is yours. I project a positive attitude as much as possible. Does that mean I am always happy?  Content?  Satisfied?  In a word, “NO!” of course not, but I find attitudes are contagious and are subject to choice. I choose to project a positive attitude and hope that others catch it.

Every coin has two sides, a heads and tails; let’s say heads is the positive side for discussion purposes. I generally call “heads” for any coin toss, as I “want” to see and feel the positive side of most issues. I tend to present the “upside”.
I have been criticized by others in my community of peers of being nothing but positive. That makes me smile; as my dearest friends and family can attest to the fact that I am very aware of the trials and tribulations of everyday life and have positive and negative emotional reactions to them every day. Always positive? ABSOLUTELY NOT! But what is to be gained with presenting the “tails” side of each situation? There seems to enough people that have chosen to present the “tails” perspective. Be mindful, attitudes are contagious and therefore I want to spread the “winning” attitude.

I absolutely love the following quotes with regard to the import of attitude and how it can affect my daily life. Yes, they reflect my belief in the essence of how my attitude can be the foundation of each day.

I believe the single most significant decision I can make on a day-to-day basis is my choice of attitude. It is more important than my past, my education, my bankroll, my successes or failures, fame or pain, what other people think of me or say about me, my circumstances, or my position. Attitude keeps me going or cripples my progress. It alone fuels my fire or assaults my hope. When my attitudes are right, there is no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me.” Charles Swindoll

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes.” Charles Swindoll

I found the following snippet in one of my many motivational sites I frequent and submit it for your contemplation.

“What kind of emotional atmosphere are you creating?

Positive people are almost always natural leaders and motivators. People gravitate towards them, just as they avoid individuals who continually mope or complain. Take a look at your own attitude. Is it one that others would want to emulate in their own lives? Instead of jumping to throw in a negative comment, try to think of something good to say instead. By no means hold in your feelings, but remember that no one likes to be surrounded by constant pessimism. Attitudes are contagious so fill your environment with happiness, enthusiasm, and optimism!”
