LIPO’s 2nd Annual Picnic, A Retrospective in Photos, But Much More

I am taking an opportunity to selectively present some photos of our Long Island Post Ops’ recent picnic. The photo selection process was almost impossible because I wish I could include everyone in every activity!

(feel free to look at a wider selection by using the web address below… thank you Nancy.)

We call it a picnic because it is family and friends gathered together at a mutually agreed upon location to share food and frolic. We ate and we played volley ball, softball and tug of war. Some rode bicycles and went out on the lake in paddle boats. Children and adults “bobbed” for apples, danced on tables and got a pie in the face. I arrived with a smile on my face and laughed most of the day. The positive responses from all who attended make the effort worth every minute of every planning meeting. I want to thank my LIPO “picnic committee” for all their hard work.

But there is more, much more. Sunday, was a day of bringing back memories of activities from the past. I had not touched a softball in 35 years. I played three innings, and LOVED it! Tug of war uses a set of muscles that I had forgotten about. And, yes, I danced on a picnic table!

Here is a sampling of the comments placed on our LIPO Facebook page

-        “Had a great time today. Definitely more activity than I would have done a year ago! Volley ball, softball, and lots of laughs!” “Oh and apparently, as exhausted as I thought I would be, between the heat, humidity, and activity....I was ENERGIZED!”

-        “great time at the park today...wonderful people...again thanks for all the hard work that goes into planning the activities...have a good week”

-        “You all inspired me today. Got home and put everything away, then met a friend and walking 2 miles tonight. Now time for a shower... Thank you LIPOians!”

-        “Me and my family had SUCH a GREAT time at the picnic yesterday thanks so much LIPO for all the fun, the games, the food and most of all the friendship :)”

For me and others, a gathering like our picnic is so much more than the dictionary definition. It becomes a challenge to repeat physical challenges from of former life, it’s about trying new things, checking off items from our ”bucket lists” and making our dreams come true. We take these opportunities to revise and celebrate a new reality.

Call it a picnic, but I suggest these activities are much more than their titles!

Come join us for our next activity. On Saturday, November 19th, LIPO is sponsoring our 2nd annual dinner dance themed “The Prom”.

Won’t you come dance and dine with us? I promise it will be a wonderful evening of dancing and…………… much more!
