14 day Post-OP Folow up Appointment
Mar 22, 2011
Soooo,
Had appointment with Doctor and all is good I lost 16.8 lbs my first two weeks according to their scale. Doc is happy with Progress and no addiotional tests are needed.
Also had meeting with my NUT and she is very happy with my food diary and only thing she wants is for me to concentrate on getting all my fluids everyday and I am now at stage 3 mushy food yaaaaa.
I Feel good and am excited about weight loss but more excited about inches lost.
I have gone from a pants size 60-62 down to a size yes its true 52. My surgeon says that is because I am following the rules. The inches lost makes me happy more then the lbs lost.
They are upping my protein to 70-80 grams now also.
I will be stepping up my walking also to at least 40min 6 days a week.
Cant wait to see what happens in the next 2 weeks.
I will let you know.....

7 days Post-op Status

Well, where do I start, I have been Obese and Morbidly Obese for most of my adult life starting when I first got married and started having children.
I am an emotional eater and love food. I like the feel of a nice juicy burger in my mouth and french fries, forget it.
I know stress has played a big part in my eating and I have worked hard over the last year to control that, and came from a high weight of 407 lbs 2 years ago.
Last summer I was at 371 lbs and still slowly losing weight, but never really winning the fight.
Then I was diagnosed with age related degenerative arthritis in my knees that was exasperated by my weight.
Then my knees started giving out on me and I had meniscus repair surgery 2 years ago on the left knee last Sept. This didn't work, my knee got worse and this last Jan 2011 I had a total left knee replacement of which I am still recovering from.
My knee Surgeon said if you don't lose the weight you will wear out the replacement hardware and we will eventually have to replace the right knee as well.
Last September I had started the process with OHSU here in Portland, OR to go thru all the tests to get qualified for RNY Gastro Bypass.
Both my knee Surgeon, Gastro Surgeon and my PCP agreed that If I had the knee surgery first and then have the Gastro I would be able to start exercising by the time I recover from Gastro.
So, here I am 7 days Post-op from Gastro Surgery and my knee is much better and I am able to walk for 30 mins and feel pretty good. Still have to ICE the knee alot but that's ok.
I weighed in on 3-8-2011 for surgery at 322.9 lbs. I had lost over 30 lbs during the Pre-op phase as well.
My Surgeon was very happy and told me I had done a good job of shrinking my liver in preparation for surgery and made his job very easy.
As of this morning I weighed 309.8 lbs and feel great.
I still have a little nausea in the mornings and I am almost off the pain meds too.
Learning how to eat all over again in a healthy way now.
Any good recipes anyone has please share them with me.
I am lucky that I love Body Fortress Protein shakes and even mix them into the cream of wheat.
I look forward to hitting my goal weight of 180 lbs by summer 2012.
Wish me luck.
