Bitter with the sweet

Jun 18, 2013

So, A month after I had my WLS, my oldest sister, R, had to have a full hysterectomy due to cancer. A surgery that should only have taken 2-3 hours ended up taking 6 hours. She has started her chemo and has since lost all of her hair. I did the Race for the Cure cancer walk here in Pittsburgh on Mother's Day. This time last year, there is no way that I would have been able to have participate in it. My team, the Weeping Angels, raised over 1400 dollars for the cause.

The reason I have titled this the bitter with the sweet, is that while I am happy for the progress that I have made with my WLS, I feel bad for being happy when R is going through what she is dealing with, I am trying to be there for her any way that I can and show my support. I don't want to come across as flaunting anything while she is in pain. There were some complications after surgery that she is dealing with. She also has two kids at home. Thankfully, her husband is also there for her and the kids. It is strange that my big sister, that was always the strong one, is now dealing with this. No, it isn't fair, but then again, life seldom is.
