Hi everyone!

im still preop so it's all opti, all day! Surgery is nine days away, today I'm going out to pick up post op vitamins. I had wanted to order the opurity or celebrate, but from what I've seen, the shipping costs to Canada are insane! I'll wait till we visit friends in Boston in a couple months and load up then!

the last person I called was my brother yesterday. But I'm usually a texter.

Good morning!

I can't do it. I cannot weigh myself every day. I fluctuate too radically. The 4 pounds I lost on AMAW?...I gained 2.5 pounds back in 3 days. Yesterday I was up a pound, today a 1.5 pounds! It is so darn discouraging. I am religiously logging into MFP. I routinely eat around 900 calories. Granted, there are some on these boards that eat less, but you would think that at close to 300 pounds, 900 calories would be a sufficient deficit to consistently lose weight. Argh!

I know that I cannot weigh-in daily. I know that my weight fluctuates drastically within any given week. I also know that if I stay the course, I will lose an average of a pound a week. But when you are "back on track" you hope to use the scale to reinforce your good food choices. So I find myself making the same mistakes...hopping on the scale, seeing the numbers going up, and deciding that this is all too much. Why should I work so hard for so little gain (pun intended?) The answer? Because I have to. This is my lot. I either fight weight gain tooth and nail, or I give up. I am not a quitter.

Rant over ;)

Moving forward...

QOTD: Talking on the phone...not my thing. I joke with my mother all the time because she will call me and say, "hi, watchya doing?" Mom, we work at the same place. We see each other all day long. You don't need to call me! I cannot remember the last time I actually picked up the phone and called someone just to talk!

water levels can fluctuate a lot for all kinds of reasons - sodium intake, hormones, etc.  Also, don't forget carbs require a lot of water to metabolize.  If you weren't already eating ultra-low carb before you went on AMAW, then you probably lost a lot of water eating just meat, because it wasn't needed due to the super low carb intake.  Once you went back to the way you were eating before (provided it wasn't ultra-low carb), then your body started hanging on to the water again because it needed it to metabolize the carbs.  Either way, I wouldn't worry about it.  It's jus****er.  If seeing your weight fluctuate a lot bothers you, then just weigh once a week or so.

When I was in the losing stage I weighed once a week at my doctors suggestion. Now that I'm in maintenance I weigh daily because it keeps me accountable.

Good morning everyone,

It's gloomy here this morning too, AV. Fog thick enough that I can't see across the street. It's supposed to warm up later but for now I'm enjoying the cool. My new teaching position this year is at a school that is in walking distance, so I get to walk to work. Yay! I've been getting in my 10,000 steps lately, but this morning could not get out of bed.

Qotd: The last phone call I made was yesterday to the hospital about my medical bills. I'm going to pay my $5500 out of pocket for my surgery, so the big bills are going on the old Discover card. I hate being in debt but I would do it again in a minute. The road I was on before RNY was leading to knee replacement, which would have easily met my out of pocket max and then whatever other health problems I would have developed. Yup. RNY is worth it.

I'm struggling a bit with my food and thought I'd post on the RNY forum so you don't get a cross post here. I'd really like to hear from some vets.

Here's my food:

B caramel protein shake, coffee with cream

L new york strip, english cucumber

D cube steak with gravy

S light and fit yogurt, 5 strawberries, laughing cow swiss wedge, and a peach

Calories 823 Carbs 35 Protein 105

They offered a payment plan of $400 a month for 6 months. I don't have $400 extra dollars a month. I just called to see if I could get a discount and they said no.

Oh well, thanks for the idea. I'll try it on my other bills.
