Hi Everyone! I am two weeks out from my surgery and was curious about protein intake in the first few weeks.

What is your favorite protein shake?

What is your favorite flavorless powder that can be mixed into smoothies?

What is your favorite way to get the protein in besides the shakes?

Thanks in advance for the input!!!!

What is your favorite protein shake?

Unjury Chocolate Splendor, Syntrax Matrix, Syntrax Nectar Sweets, Chike, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 10o% Whey

What is your favorite flavorless powder that can be mixed into smoothies?

I never did smoothies, that's basically a way to mainline a huge hit of calories, carbs, and sugar directly into your system for easy absorption and weight gain. No thank you! But when I used unflavored (not flavorless - there is no such thing as flavorless protein powder) I used either Unjury or Syntrax Nectar.

What is your favorite way to get the protein in besides the shakes?

When I was two weeks out I was still on full liquids, so it was basically shakes and that was it for me. Once I was able to move on to purees and then soft foods, my favorites became fish, shellfish, and eggs, though I eat a fair amount of red meat, chicken, turkey, and Greek yogurt as well. Also some occasional cottage cheese.

I only ever drank the ready to drink shakes (Premier Protein).  I could never get the consistency right when I made my own...too chalky and made me gag.  After 3 weeks I was cleared for fish so I ate a lot of fresh fish at that point.  I was off shakes around 3 months and moved to Quest bars to get protein.  I still have a Quest bar for breakfast almost every day.  Good luck!

Initially, I drank the Syntrax brand of mixes.  I really didnt like the fruit flavored ones so stuck with vanilla, chocolate and coffee flavored.  I then moved to the Premier Protein, already mixed.  I liked the  Choc and Vanilla.  I still have one of those every once in a while and use the vanilla in place of creamer for coffee.

My favorite non-liquid proteins were and still are tuna, salmon, eggs, low-fat cheese, chicken and cottage cheese. May sound boring, but I love it :)

Pretty much any smoothie concoction you make yourself at this point probably has too many carbs if you are adding fruit to it. Better to stick with the flavored protein drinks/shakes. My current favorites: Inspire Pumpkin Pie and Peanut Butter Cookie(Bariatriceating.com) Chike or fit Frappe Mocha, Vanilla and Chocolate: Natural Whey by Bodylogix -  buy it at Walgreens. They carry in GNC but cheaper in Walgreens. Premier Protein ready-to-drink is very convenient and has the best stats. Have been drinking it warm lately like hot chocolate.

Early on for protein I did poached eggs, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, greek yogurt, fish. Once I could have more solid protein I did better with beef than chicken in the beginning. Important that it isn't dry, you take small bites and chew, chew, chew. Haven't been a fan of cold cuts since surgery, but some people love them.

Favorite protein shake is chike iced coffee shake through chike nutrition. I have one every day as my mid morning snack. Packed with vitamins and protein

i used to use the Unjury flavorless powder

i currently being one year out get my protein from whole foods and also through Quest bars. Can't seem to shake them as they are very convenient and pack 20 grams of protein. I like the apple pie and peanut butter supreme bars. I also get my protein from fish. Salmon, tuna, Mahi, etc...

Favorite shake:  Unjury Chocolate Splendor mixed with almond milk and 1 tsp. of instant espresso - delish!

Flavorless powder:  bought some Unjury but never used it.

Smoothies:  don't go drinking fruit or fruit juice smoothies - they are a carbohydrate bomb and will spark cravings.  They can also sabotage your weight loss.

Other protein options early out:  ricotta cheese bake; scrambled eggs; Isopure Zero Carb drinks - they weren't a favorite but I could handle the fruit punch flavor if it was ice cold.
