Almost two weeks post-op

Jun 01, 2012

Wow I did it! I am feeling pretty good. I would say my biggest complaint is my incisions....They itch soooo much I cause irritation and sometimes bleeding scratching t night.
Here's my time-line so I can look back and remember.
first 2 days-I mostly slept and took pain meds. I got up and walked alot. I did not have severe pain. I did not have any problems getting in fluids. I was very uncomfortable sleeping-I am a stomach sleeper. I slept on the couch with lots of pillows.

2-7 days-I have been  active(mostly getting out and doing errands, walk at the park etc.) really it wore me out so quick, I had no choice but to slow down and go home for naps after normal outings. I really longed for food and the pureed stage. Unjury chicken soup was a protein flavor i could not do without it really tastes like chicked soup. I listened to my body and rested when needed. I had JP drains and HAAAATED them- I cursed them daily and they responded with an infection. I was on antibiotics and all was well. My favorite protein blended shake was Unjury chocolate with PB2. At my post op 8 days out I was able to get my drains out Thank the heavens. The pain endured at removal was well worth getting them out, My husband called them my buddies cuz the were always with me hanging around. Blech.

8-now days- I am feeling good, sleeping on my tummy. I have decided I am going to embrace this whole thing and cook and prepare foods that will suit my diet at the time. I love to cook and cant give that up. Today I am making double batches of lots of my favorites to freeze -Chili, Salisbury steak, chicken and dumplings. Things I can easily blend and my family likes. I will be exhausted next week when I go back too work and will not want to cook at the end of the day. Take out and fast food is not an option. Some things that have been easy to tolerate-Mashed potatoes, re-fried beans with taco meat blended, cream of wheat, Chili blended with cheese, yogurt. I have noticed my tasters have changed I tried a sugar free candy and it was too flavored-couldn't eat it. Savory foods have satisfied me more than sweet. This is a challenge with protein shakes. Eating 5 times a day and getting in water, vitamins, omeprozole, calcium, protein is alot of management. I look forward to it feeling routine. I have had a twinge of head hunger but it has not taken me out yet, I'm waiting, I know I will have a breakdown at some point. I have been thinking mostly about salads and vegetables and dining out. That is hard. I know once I am through healing we can go out and I can eat veggies again. Till then thank the stars for my juicer.
