Go in for RNY and come out Sleeved!

Jul 17, 2012

Well, its been awhile.  I am back on the grid.  I went into surgery exprecting to have the RNY and due to an Ulcer, (2) Hernias and a scarred gallbladder, I came out sleeved.

It took a few days to wrap my head around it.  I felt very unprepared mentally since I had studied the RNY for years and in detail for the past six months. I guess God had a plan that I was not aware of.  I am okay now that I have had a chance to do some research and watch some youtube sleevers that have led the way for me.

Lets talk numbers.  I hit my highest weight of 272 (I am sure higher but didn't weigh).  On the day of my pre op appt, was 251.  Today I weighed in at 228.  Thats 44 total and 23 since pre-op appt.  I don't remember my weight the day of surgery.  That day and the day after are just a blur.

I did get a bit nausious the following morning and was uncomfortable for the most part, but the hospital was Johnny on the spot with the pain meds and I took full advantage.  I was sent home with the liquid Lortab and took it a few times and haven't taken any since my follow up appt when the drain tube was removed.  I did have gas pains, under my right shoulder blade seemed to be where it liked to gather.  Nothing that I couldn't handle though.

I was a good girl with liquids and protein shakes.  I am on pureed now but i only do cream soups and beans.  I did have mashed potatoes a few times but since they don't have that great of a nutritional value I only eat those if there is nothing else to choose from.
I was VERY weak the first week home and of course fell the second week and feel like a bruised my left side.  I called the Surgeon and he didn't think I hurt anything with the surgery and to call my GP.  I don't know if its a pulled muscle near my ribcage but it hurts when I walk and sometimes when I drink I get a sharp pain in my side.  I actually rode my bike around the block last nite with no pain when I did it but woke up sore.  I have not been big on shakes but do enjoy the Isopure with some Gatorade for protein and a Premier Shake from Sam's Club as well.  I have been doing the scrambled egg thing for dinner and soup for lunch.

Well.  I am back alive and kickin'.  More to come.  :-)
