My Story
I am a 34 year African American female. I am married with 4 children (5,11,16,19). I became a mother at the age of 14. I have always been an active person. I am the woman tha wears not 1 or 2 hats but all the hats in the closet. I am mother, wife, coach, friend, nurse, counselor, teacher, repair person, and much much more. I have always been so busy taking care of everyone else I barely had time to care for myself. Over the years my health began to decline a little at a time all related to the weight. I begin to notice when I would become SOB walking up and down the football field or walking a flight of stairs. It is really ironic how we don't notice the God given warning signs that our body gives us. Later my blood pressure begin to rise. And eventually even with meds it became uncontrollable. As I said earlier I have 4 children. I want to be around not only to see my grandchildren (by the way Im not expecting for another 8-10 years) but also my son who is now 5 years old. I want to give him the same time and moments I have given the other children. He deserves to have his mother there for him and stroked out or dead. For me it about living again to give to those who have given joy to me, my kids.
I am a registered nurse case manager. Although I enjoy my job...my first love is bedside nursing. But because of the wear and tear on my body that the weight has caused I had to go to choose another position that was more suitable for me. Even if I don't return to the floor I want to make that decision not allowing my weight to make the decision for me.
I am glad that I have choosen to have the lap band surgery.
