vitamins

The latest guidelines are those published in 2013 and they say what I've been saying.  I do hope everyone will read them for themselves and not take my word for it.

Did I miss a post?  What actual "findings" did she share?

Chill pepper can say the same thing and take down the attitude 1 or 50 notches.

And by her own post Poet Kelly writes: "I am not a doctor."  She has done a lot of research and her info can be a good place to start, but she is not a student of medicine and human physiology. What one person retains or sheds in vitamins is why we get our labs drawn and monitored by those who are licensed to give us this information. I know there is misinformation in the medical community, but seriously if you value your health, find a health care provider you trust for your nutritional information. We all did this to get increasingly healthy. Consult someone that has a professional responsibility for helping you increase or maintain your health.

Agreed! A doctor can order blood work for you, then see what your levels are at and make specific recommendations. Nobody on the internet could (or SHOULD) do that :)

So are you saying that Kelly should NOT tell people that the ASMBS exists and that they have a published set of nutritional and assessment guidelines to use as a starting point?

I think she said no one on the internet should be ordering blood work or making specific recommendations.  I could not order blood work if I wanted to, since a licensed physician or nurse practitioner must do that.  I do suggest people follow the ASMBS guidelines UNLESS their labs indicate they need to do something different.

Nope. I'm saying that individual adjustments ("I need to take more B12," etc.) should be done by a doctor based on a patient's specific situation, rather than "this information I found on the Internet says I need X amount of this vitamin, so I'm going to start taking Y dose on my own." Knowing that the information exists-- and quite possibly taking it to a doctor for him/her to use when advising-- is definitely helpful, especially if someone's doctor isn't up-to-date on the standards.

There's a big difference between "oh I need to take X vitamins because this website says so" and "I got the results of my blood work, and my doctor confirmed that I should take more of X vitamin because s/he indicated that my levels fall short of the recommendations [that I may have needed to provide]."
